so i am going to get a service done on my auto... (99 model 105 series... a442 box i think)
anyway has anyone done an upgrade on the valve body and how did it go?
i was thinking of doing this at the same time to save a bit of cash (maybe).. i read on another website that this alone will improve shifting...
thoughts?

I put the "Wholesale Automatics Extreme Valve Body" on my 2002 FZJ105R GXL 4.5 petrol/LPG, with the A442F auto.
Overall I'm very happy with it.
Benefits:
- Better power down, no slipping or hunting around
- Seems to be more direct - as in the throttle-to-road-speed takes much less time. (Could be imagination, or a side-effect of the firmer shifting)
- Engine braking is greatly increased for some reason - it now doesn't run away from me in low range down a hill.
- Tows a 28 foot boat out up a ramp far easier now, doesn't struggle
- Firmer shifting means it doesn't search around for a gear, it selects it and goes.
Detriment:
- Harsh shifting when under power - it can shake the whole car. I get around this by knowing when it usually shifts, and I gently back-off the accelerator pedal until it shifts, then put the boot back in smoothly.
Takes most of the harshness out of the shift.
Hasn't increased power, but if I wanted to turbo my 4.5 (I _WANT_ to, but can't justify the $$$'s) then my A442F with the valve body would handle it no problem.
If you're around Canberra, I'll take you for a drive in my rig so you could make your own mind up.
I haven't put the auto trans temp guage or the manual overdrive override (shift lockout) switch in yet - haven't gotten around to it in 6 months so don't think I'll bother...
