Snagging front right wheel

Post by PATROLSNIFFER »

Hi all , after some information as to what might be causing a problem with my fj45 cruiser. Was driving along slowly on way home from the tip and noticed the steering pulling quickly to the right on the odd accasion.Anyhow by the time i neared home this was getting quite severe. It feels like the right hand side front wheel is locking or grabbing quickly causing the car to veer right. It is safely parked up for now but would like some input as to how to go about fixing it and what may be causing it.Thanks. Oh I should state that the car has been thriving on neglect for quite a while now so I would expect the root cause to be lack of lubrication on my behalf.

Sounds like wheel bearings seizing up, jack up the RF wheel and spin it, no doubt you'll hear/feel it. You'll probably feel a fair bit of freeplay if you grab the tyre at 12 and 6 o clock and rock the wheel in and out. Might be a good time to get your hands dirty and give your poor 45 the loving it deserves. :D

it sounds more to what ray is suggesting , but also check your swivel hub bearings like jj said

either way i would suggest to stop driving it until problem solved

Yep it looks like getting in and dirty will be the way to go.I just have not had the front wheel assembly apart before so will look at buying a manual and digging in.

To me sounds like pinion gear as l have just broken some gear in my front diff, try draining the diff and see if you find any shrapnell.

:?:

Unless he is driving around with the hubs locked and 4H/L engaged I cant see how anything in the front diff is going to cause what he's experiencing.
