Have a gearbox issue with the Rangie.......76 model and pretty sure it's the standard manual box. From about 30kph up a ticking noise can be heard somewhere up the front of the box. Sometimes it comes and goes in the blink of an eye. Makes no difference pushing in the clutch.....the noise is still there. Below about 30kph the noise seems to go away....

Thought it may be the shaft hitting on the x member.......now I'm not so sure :oops:

The gearbox oil pump is in front of the gear case on an LT95.

probably be a hole in the exhaust manifold can you feel the ticking through the gear shifter

I cant feel it thru the Hi range shifter but thought it comes thru the low range one. BTW It does not happen in Low range.

Moose.........I rang my mechanic to see if he had lost a wrist watch.......no luck.

Bush65........It does sound like the box is low on oil. Is this a big job to replace the oil pump.

Like Ragin Rover said, probably the exhaust manifolds, but sounds like the whole unit is need of some TLC.

An oil change in those bloody things helps sometimes. It did for me on my old 2 door years ago. Those LT95's are so bloody noisy and they make all sorts of grumbling noises, so i wouldn't be too concerned about it. The 95's can survive all sorts of punishment you dish out on them.

The oil pump in an LT95 has fibre gears and fibre drive shaft with square drive at end of shaft, they can fail if you use gearbox oil - should use engine oil. The pump is outside the gearcase, but inside the bellhousing. It is a big job to drop the gearbox, but once it is out the pump is simple.

I only mentioned the pump because it is in the area that you thought the noise is coming from and you may not have been aware it is there. Noises detected while driving can be deceptive and are not always from where you think.

The hi/low rnage shift has a finger (on the cross shaft) that engages the selector fork. There is a plastic tip on this finger that fails. When the tip is missing the finger rattles in the selector fork. Replacing the missing tip with some oil resistant plastic tube cuts out a remarkable amount of noise.

Just had the oil replaced about 1 month ago........used engine oil. I'll check out what you guys have said and keep the diagnostic team updated :P

After hoping under the truck and having no more idea than when I started I took it to a Gearbox outfit...........came back from test drive and...... :oops: :oops: :oops: speedo is screwed inside the box and that was causing the noise........Thanks again for all the info :P
