tough dog shocks super strong shafts

had them about 2 years in the rear of a 4inch lifted patrol. they leaked like seives after a few months became unadjustable and now there super thick shafts have bent.

replaced them with procome 32inch shocks now my springs flop around when articulating. but ill retain them soon.

Well Shocks aren't supposed to have side loads imposed on them. So no real need for thick shafts, I've never seen a shaft break along its length. Thicker shafts just take up space that oil could have used for greater volume.
They probably leaked, because the stroke wasn't long enough and topped out and damaged the seal. Check that your new shocks can compress all the way to the bump stops.

tough dog seals suck ass.

always wondered how shocks bent. never really understood that one, seen a few bent but never knew how it happened
turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown

shocks only bend if something else is wrong.
dont blame the shock for that one.
it may have seized due to no oil, or your rear bushes are r00ted, or a rear arm or panhard broke.

tough dog seals arent the best no...............mine are 3 years old n only just started to leak. and only $100 each to rebuild.

i dont realy know how they bent either. as the are so thick the coil hit them under compresion but i cant realy understand how they bent no other suspension components are bent.

I might be missing the point here but

A) stock GQ's don't bend shocks
B)they are some beefy shafts to bend
C)WTF the coils hit them under compression??????

There is something seriously wrong with your suspension. You need to find the source of this problem before you keep throwing more shocks at it.

Shocks are not designed to take ANY side loading at all, it will kill them in no time.

There is something seriously wrong with your suspension. You need to find the source of this problem before you keep throwing more shocks at it.

wen under compresion the coil buckles slightly....and as the td shock is so thick it comes into contact with it. the pro comp shocks iv just fitted have a thiner bore and therfore they clear the coils under copmpresion. there is nothing i can see wrong with the suspension all control arms are straight the bushes are all good.

im running tough dogs in my gq and it dont touch. ever.

seriously something is not right.
my bet is the shocks seized or something isnt alligned properly.
if you have sloppy bushes or a bent trailing arm the diff will rotate and stuff the shocks.

seriously this DOES NOT HAPPEN if things are all correct. id try find the cause as even tho procomps are cheap id still like to think they wont bend on my first trip out.

ps procomps are very prown to bending if something is up

On my old GQ I bent a rear lower trailing arm. And it bent the shafts. On a GQ it dosent need much rotation of the diff for the shock to be damaged. Just flex in the bushes I think could rotate the diff enough for damage to occur. To prevent damage next time the shocks are of grind the rear part of the bump stop pad on the diff. This should prevent some of the damage to the shock body.
Both my rear shocks had slight bends in the shaft. Oh and they where Koni.
