I have a 1992 80 Series 1HD-T landcruiser with about 220,000 kms on it, the engine is completely standard. I have noticed a leak coming from the bottom of the intake manifold which appears to be diesel fuel. It seems to be leaking out of the mainfold at the firewall end of the engine the worst but does seem to be coming from each of the 6 inlets for the manifold.
Today i bought a new set of intake manifold gaskets (6 pieces in total) and plan to replace these this weekend. But im starting to get worried as to why there is fuel leaking out of the manifold. as my understanding of my engine is that it is direct injection - the injectors shoot straight into the cylinder bore, so i dont quite understand how the fuel would be coming out of this region.
I only have a pretty basic knowledge of diesel engines, and the only other symptom that i can think of is that seems to be blowing a little bit more smoke thank usual when the car is under load and on boost - this could just be freaking out abit because of this leak and being a bit over critical
Any thoughts/ suggestions or things to look out for when I change the gaskets this weekend would be greatly appreciated

Intake Mainfold Leak - 80 Series T/Diesel

It won't be diesel leaking, it will be engine oil which is coming into the inlet tract via the PCV system.
Either sit back an enjoy it, or fit a catch can to the PCV line between the rocker cover and air intake pipe.
And if replacing the gaskets, did you order the rubber washers as well?

Strangest thing is...
a while ago i noticed that there was some oil that was seaping out of the hose that runs from the rocker cover to the intake pipe. I Put a catch-can on it, new hoses new hose clamps etc. and it made it blow heaps more smoke (really white)
I didnt think that was such a great idea, so i took the catchcan off, hooked the old pipe and two hoses back up with the crappy 'pinch clamps'
It blew a little bit of white smoke for the next kilometre of driving and then just started blowing super black smoke and lots of it... then the next day it seemed to be back to normal.
any ideas on what this could be? - the only thing i can think of is that it changed something to do with the vaccum system in the engine, even though in essence the catch can setup was the same as the factory pipe (pipe ran from rocker cover into the catchcan then the out hose ran into the air intake.)
Got me completely stumped
P.s. I ordered the rubber washers as well

Can't answer that one. Is there any possibility the catch can you fitted was restrictive? Although I would have guessed you would have found some new oil leaks if it was (as the crankcase pressure built up enough to leak or blow out seals).BLC wrote:

Instead of a catch can, block the filter end and extend the rocker cover PCV hose down to chassis level and try that. Just make sure you don't do any water crossings like that.
Normally people complain about the turbo compressor housing being wet or leaking at the bottom, not the manifold leaking.
