ARB Compressor Problems

Post by kalcruiser »

Just went for a quick cruise and after getting into a spot of bother i went to switch on ARB compressor to activate the difflock i noticed it was not a smooth sound as normal instead it had a knock every 4-5 seconds after no diiflocks i got out of the situation to check things out to find no air coming out of manifold to any of the 3 outlets. I can feel solinoid kicking in and out for the difflock. Its dark now. tomorrow i'll look a little closer. But id say the compressor u/s can you get rebuild kits for these and has anyone seen this before?????

Thanks in Advance

ARB offer every part and the prices are ok. You can even send it in for a rebuild and generally it doesn't cost that much as they only do what is necessary. When I had a problem with mine due to too much water it only cost about $6 in parts. Apparently $70 covers a pretty full rebuild or so I was told.

I have had 2 problems with mine:

First: The O rings around the air tank pushed out around 1 edge and started leaking. This was fixed by loosening the end bolt, stuffing the O ring back in and re-tightening. You can hear the air leaking obviously aroung the air tank.

Secondly: The inlet valve of the compressor disintegrated. Luckily for me it was just at the very top of hell hill in the wattagans. 1 minute earlier and my nice drive would have turned th s#!t. Basically, the air compressor sounds about twice as loud and dosent turn off as it cant pump air. When I pulled the top off above the air compressor cylinder, under the guaze filter, I noticed bits of white plastic that looked like finger nail bits. These bit where a lot more evident on top of the piston. The inlet valve is a $2 bit of plastic, that ARB told me is quite common to let go. So I bought 2 and threw the other one in the ash tray so hopefully I will never need it again.

They are easy to pull apart and replace parts. As stated all part are available from ARB. Good luck.
