commodore v6 in sierra.

i seriosly looking at putting commodore v6 and t700 in my siera and have a few questions.
im currently runnign twin t cases i will hvae to run auto straight to 1L case will all my gearing go out the window or will it not matter?
will my 1L t case stand up to it i know some 4age put out more power?
i was just goignt o make a tailshaft type set up from auto to t case will tis be ok?
will the v6 be to heavy? will hopefully be linked and coiled.
wat size stall if any would be recomended?
has any one done this?
will hopefully be pared up with some gqs so diffs shoulnt be a problem.
will i need to worry about any thin else.
i will have no compresion brakeing with auto is there any way i can?
any help much appreciated.

This covered before but not really with the whole patrol diffs and all that!

Pretty much from every one that has done the engine conversion it's way to heavy for going bush with all that weight over your front wheels!

Other people will put in there 2 bobs worth but i think they will all say the same thing! ;)

Don't do it, it will suck.

These engines are completely "wrong" for a suzuki - too heavy, too much torque*, they don't rev, they're too long with the 700R4 behind them in a SWB.

I spent a fair while looking over Otis a few years ago, and the V6 sure is a tight fit.

You already have a gemini motor, right? I believe that all the isuzu motors are bolt in on the same pattern, so a rodeo 2.6 should be an easy fit.

Rod McCormack who used to run a workshop in vic ran a 2.6 rodeo motor in his zook - it was very grunty.

* no, I haven't gone insane, you can only use as much torque as you have traction, and in a light car, it's too hard to modulate.

Most of the guys who have tried this have had really big cars - extended WB, etc so they stop working like a suzuki and start working like a hilux or patrol with a cramped cab.

Make the most of the lightness.

In case you doubt anything you find using Search, bigmick, I have driven such a beast and can tell you what it felt like to drive.

Bloody terrifying. Power and torque were great, but its handling on the road was really bad. That extra weight up front made it understeer worse than any other Sierra I've ever driven. Understeer is fine in a FWD but this is rear-drive fer Chrissake!

It was pretty well set up for the road too, I never got to drive it offroad so have no opinion in that regard. But I do know it had a habit of blowing diffs, transfer case etc (think it was all still stock!)

This was about four years ago, the last time I saw that Sierra it was in bits again and being returned to stock (well, almost stock - a Vitara 1.6efi).

Commodore 3.8 is an interesting conversion if you have big pockets, but there are far better ways of substantially improving power/torque.

Just my two bobs worth worth. Hmm, no, I must have written about 35 cents worth there...

i was only thinking the commo v6 cause there cheap and pretty bulet proof and injected.
i cant handle a carbie motor any more ive got the gearing but when ever i get to anything steepish it just dies. i like the 1.6 it has got enought power for now i just dont know how it would go wit bigger diffs.
if i go gass does that mean i will stop stalling on agles.

LPG will help you run on angles, a torbo/supercharger will help you get up the hills quicker.

Zooks are light and best kept that way. Gravity says its easier to lug 1,000kg up a hill as opposed to 2,000kg.

I have a mate that has just done the V6 commo conversion its LWB 1ILR diffs and 1ltr transfer. Went out with him on sat and was very impressed. This zook is very high double shazy and spoa but still went hard with no sigh of tiping over :D

mick i have a lwb and was going to v6 it I had a vp v6 motor with 5sp ready to go, i even had an engineer to aprove what i wanted to do, but in the last minute, i changed my mind and i am glad i did, I put a ca18det in it, it has more power with boost, economy without boost, its fuel injected, wieghs bugger all, I brought a front cut for $1600 with 60,00ks, try and find a v6 with 60,000 ks for that.

And personaly i am over commerdore v6's shore theres is plenty around but as they get older they chew the fuel like nothing else and i have owned 4 in vairies cars and 3 of them done big ends and to t700 blow over rated leave them in commerdores till they die then scrap em there is better motors.

thats my 2c on that.

But if you want some advice, and are still keen this is what i would do, find a hilux chassis, put gq diffs spoa, (if you have to) commerdore V6 4sp auto, and either hilux transfer or gq transfer marks do adaptors for both.(my 2c is a LPG only turbo rb30 from a gq matched with gq transfer) then put a sierra body on. a sierra chassis will twist to the shit house with this combo hilux will do much better or even better find a swb rb30 patrol and do a sierra body swap.

conclusion
go big and strong or stay light and nibble there is no real compromise. start light, add power, things brake, simple

Or you could just buy a GQ, ute chop it and run kevlar panels. Similar end witght to a sierra body on a GQ chassis without the stuffing around.

There are, as offroader said, many lighter, more powerful engines available as opposed to the V6 commodore engine.

im pretty shore i will just stay with the gemmi motor. if i put it on gass will it improve on agles much. ive got the gearing for the gq so will move to them when i can.

gq diffs are big diffs for a 1600 gemini to turn what ratio are they most are 4.11 and if you are running 35's the gemini motor would realy be struggling hilux with 4.88 - 5.29 would be much better lighter with better ratios for what you want at right price

i've got a 4ag-e motor forsale, u can buy that, pic up a loom for 200 n then ur set... run ur gq's on that.. n they are injected so there goes ur up hill problems :cool:

i just want gqs cause every one goes hlux i know a couple of ppl hav them but not as many. mine got twin t cases and im gana put gears in the second case :D so gearing should be ok this car is regoed trailer only rig atm it isnt capable of much over 40kph. ill be trying to make it more into a full bodied crawler.
how much you after for your 4age. pm if you wish.
any one know about the gas on angles thing?
is there any thing i can do to my carbie to make it work?
can i get a different one?

if your motor will run upside down the LPG will be there to feed it, angles are not an issue, exept when your very low on LPG in the tank, then your pick up in your tank want work, but thats the same for petrol.
