Front Wheel Bearings

My little feroza did a trip to cooktown and sort of back this long weekend just gone (Show weekend) thing was on the way home managed to do a wheel bearing and its not nice locked the front wheel for a moment now got a flat spot on the front right muddy anywho i need to know how to remove the front bearings as they are allumn key style heads and the metal that they are made out of its so f*cking soft that i can't get them out of where they are. Tried to remove them but ended up getting the ol girl towed home Yah for RACQ. Other than that was a great weekend.

Do you mean the dome head cap screws that hold the cover on to the free wheeling hub ?

Yeah thats them. The other quick question is are there any types of bearings that are better than others?

I had to use an impact driver with a bit in it to get mine out....

replaced them with plated cap screws - much better head form for future
removal.

The kits i have purcahsed ( from CBC ) actually had different brands
in the box anyway, so I think it might be "take it or leave it".
Change the seals at the same time and regrease the locking hubs.

THe silly buggers even put in a split pin - god only knows where they
dreamed that one up - or where they thought it would go.

The retaining nuts are LARGE so getting a tension wrench on them
may be difficult if you dont have the right tool. you will also need
external circlip pliers to remove the axle from he locking hub inner.
Being covered in grease makes it kinda hard to see sometimes.
I always replace the circlips ( a bag of 10 is only a few $ ) but most
people probably just reuser the old ones.

Tensioning them correctly is important and make sure the lock tab is
used - otherwise they will work loose.

If you havn't got a manual go to WARFS.org and download the relevant section.... Its actually not a mega job once you get into it - but the
right tools help.

Thanks Greatly i just enquired with one of the local parts suppliers and they informed me that the parts are going to cost me about 160 for the inner bearing and about 40 for the outer one so allround will be 400 for the bearings and seals. Not the sort of thing that i want to happen to often.

Yeah i just spoke to a mate of mine that works for a local bearing supplier and he told me that toyota use the same identical bearings but from bearing supplier will be 100 for both sides that bearings and seals.
