chances are u dont have a six sided nut, if its the safari ur talkin about ull probably have a circlular nut with tapped holes in it, its the same steup as newer GQs and GUs, i could be wrong but the few ive done have all had em, even 88 models,

From memory I paid about $45 for all the parts to convert my Mav to the newer GU style.

i wasn't sure if that was the case but it is. will the locking nut need replacing? are there bits in the bearing kit
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... &rd=1&rd=1
that i wont need?

also we are changing the front rotors and pads, how much are rear pads worth? are front/rear the same

1 pads are like 35 bucks an end (4 pads) and im pretty sure they are the same front and rear

2 that kit has a new lock washer for the 6 sided bearing nut

3 u shouldnt need to replace either the nut or the lock washer if u have the newer setup.

4 u may need a new lock washer (which is in ur kit anyway) if its the 6 sided nut but u can usually reuse an old one if u have to

try not to re-use an old tab washer, they are like a $1.30 or so from nissan. The washers have a tendancy to have the tab wind its self through the tread n come loose, mainly on passenger side

I just did the bearings on my 90 Mav yesterday and the bastards have come loose already. They have sheared the tab off on the lock ring.
I want to go to the newer style lock ring , so can anyone tell me EXACTLY what parts I need to get off Nissan tomorrow to do it?
Is it just 1 circular lock ring and washer per side?

You need the following

NI-40262-02J00 1 PER SIDE - NUT LOCK, FRONT WHEEL
NI-40264-02J10 1 PER SIDE - WASHER, FRONT WHEEL BEARING
NI-01414-00051 2 PER SIDE - BOLTS

yeh thats all, they need 2 m4 bolts too i think but u should get them with it, something doesnt seem right about shearin that washer, there shouldnt be a radial force on the washer to spin it thats why theres a bearing, ur bearing has to have locked and spun on the washer which isnt good

i have but i cant find it, i would taken a photo, its a piece of flat bar with 2 bolts that fit the bearing nut bolt circle diameter and a 12 mm bolt thru the flat bar so u can put a socket on it and turn it, if u dont get what i mean let me know, or do u mean a 54mm socket for the 6 sided nut?

Sweet guys thanks for the info and part numbers. Hopefully my local dealer has them in stock when I rock down tomorrow.
So do you just tension the lock ring up like normal , and line the bolt holes up with the keyways in the stub axle and put the bolts in?
Bear with me , I ahvent done this setup before and dont want to stuff it up. I am sick of doing the bearings on the POS already.

I know this is an old thread but I'm doing my bearings over the weekend and I have autohubs (yeah yeah I know ditch them and go manual) on my '93 TI is there any more drama involved in this aside from just removing them?

The gregorys manual doesnt cover the TI model and the diag for that tool to remove the locking nut? Does it work? Wouldnt it just twist under pressure? Is there one commercialy avaliable?

Cheers
