Can some one let me know is it the front or rear calipers that need grinding and where on the caliper needs to be done?

How much do you need to take off?

usually only the rear except some alloy wheels might scrape on the front. fit up your wheels and you'll see where it rubs. an arguably better solution is to retrofit the rear brakes from an early 80 series, they are a bolt on swap and you might even get them for free if you find someone sensible with an early 80 who wants bigger brakes and doesn't mind the improved ride and handling of 16" wheels.

cheers
