ok my mate has a gq storty 4.2 petrol it has just had a new head because the head gasket shat it self,now the problem is when it get to running temp it just stalls then will not start of the key but tuns over fine but you roll start it and starts straight away any one has any ideas thanks

Anyway, I would be looking at the wiring around the coil and ballast resistor, if it's got a ballast resistor. When you have the key turned to "START" ie you're cranking it over, the power going to the coil bypasses the ballast resistor; when you roll-start it, the ballast resistor is in series with the coil.

So, if the connection from the ignition switch to the bypass side of the ballast resistor was a bit dodgy, then that might be the problem. You could probably test this by just jumping the ballast resistor, ie connecting a short piece of wire to both ends of the ballast resistor. This isn't necessarily a permanent fix, just a diagnostic step.

The other thing I'd consider is the possibility that the coil is just stuffed, or the ballast resistor, but if it roll starts then they are probably okay I guess.

Coils that are on the way out can be pretty heat sensitive.
