Never actually competed in Tough Tracks before... but it was something we were interested in....
Yeah ,I though you guys would have been fine.... Then Again I thought our truck was too.
Darren - stop being so bloody negative. For about the 4th. time I think that yours with full doors will be fine, with little or no further work required to comply. So why not wait until you see if yours complies before you pass any more negative comments. Let DFK Racing contact me to discuss their vehicle. Don't turn them away.
And as for bringing a swag - you don't think we are going to let you sleep through a meeting do you !!!
Peter K.
PS - If your vehicle is OK you're going to have to eat humble pie and put a post up saying how easy it is to comply - otherwise we'll have to do something nasty like unlock 1 FWH as you line up for a track !!
Ours is pretty standard and we do have full doors, no major mods, all running gear is standard, and we run 35 inch tyres..... It has only recently been reregistered with no problems from Qld Transport, excepting the fact that we have no windscreen after a roll over at the qld winch this past weekend, I think we should be ok....But I will defiantly be in contact to discuss this with you Peter....
Just going back to dual transfers - Is there a mod plate for these or does it come under gearbox upgrades. I would expect if you guys have posted the rules you would have looked into what could be plated and what can't. This is most likely the only thing stopping me from competing. I can't see how duals would effect things on the road anyway.
Another thing. If people get things mod plated and bring the paper work to the comp. Can you guys say that the engineer waz on drugs and that can't be legal!!!!!, or do you have to take his word for it????
I spose it might come down to who has the money to pay the engineer to pass his or hers truck.

There are codes under the heavy vehicle code of practice to cover a number of the modifications we have been talking about lately. Many Certifying Engineers only have approval under the light vehicle code of practice and hence can not assess or approve certain mods that are performed on chassised vehicles.
The following can be approved (if engineered correctly of course)
- GU front diff into GQ.
- Additional gearboxes or transfercases.
- High Steer conversions.
PM me if you want the name of the Engineer who has this authority and knowledge. Wouldn't it be nice to know that your cross over steering conversion is legal and SAFE. It can be done and it shouldn't be up to the volunteers of a club to approve these mods.
We are looking at other mods as well to see what can be approved if engineered correctly.

How does that help any competitors Peter as I have just checked with 2 of our engineers here at work (Western Star Trucks Head Office) and the Heavy Vehicle NCOP is relevant to vehicles with a GVM greater than 4.5 tonnes which is non of our Patrols, Cruisers, Hilux's etc
Cheers

You need to dig further Linc.
Where there is a code under the light vehicle code of practice then this should be used for vehicles under 4.5 tonnes. The LV codes are primarily designed for monoque construction vehicles, so where a code does not exist in the LV Code of Practice, you may use a heavy vehicle code for a chassised vehicle.

Yeah its says use heavy vehicle code for vehicles with a seperate chassis... So Linc, have a chat to your engineer mates!!!

I admit I am being a bit Negative.. But will talk to you tonight about that, I like others am/will be p***ed with rule chnages with 1 round to go after spending good money in the last 2 weeks doing mods that would have complied before the rule changes... Thats it... Ill suck it up like everyone else and will show up in 4/5 wekks time ready to go again

Yes I am aware that the rules state wheel options are unlimited but if I was to have a GU diff in a GQ (D.O.T Plated - and carrying my precious paper certificate to go with) then put 10" wide rims on or flipped rims, etc what is the point in having spent my coin getting the diff plated as I've just gone over the 50mm track width alteration.
Cheers

Hey link...Rims and tyres are free except for max height of the tyre..

When I had my hilux I was assured by a well know engineer in the logan club that dual transfers are legal as long as you do not change the original mounting. So normal dual case x members on hilux's that use the original chassis and transfer mounts, like what bubs and superior engineering make are fine.
On Sunday 29th July, we will be conducting vehicle scrutineering at Redlands 4WD, 30 Steel St. Capalaba for anyone wanting to get their vehicles checked proir to Round 3.
