today i parked next to a high fence which echoed the sound of the gu back at me. when i started it there was a noise that sounded like gear chatter or to gears not quite meshing, when i put the foot on the clutch it stops. change the oil about four weeks ago, drives real nice and smooth, just looking for comments please. done 190,000 ks. 4.2 turbo diesel.

Diesel GBox clatter. They all do it. Some clutches have a diff dampner setup that helps reduce the noise.

thanks for reply bazzle, put it over the pit today. sound seems to be coming from the back, right where the transfer case bolts up. put screwdriver to ear and that's where it is loudest. as said before when the clutch is engaged it stops. why do they make this noise? i was thinking i only heard it after i changed the oil.
