Improving performance of a 13B-T

Post by gogo »

I am contemplating upgrading my 13B-T to give her a little more woomph.

Right now its pretty stock standard as from the factory.

Here's a list of mods I want to do, so any comments most welcome:

1. Change out factory C26 turbo for a C28 unit.
2. Add an intercooler, I think front mount would be best.
3. Put a bigger spring in the fuel pump and do the injector at the same time.

and..

Should I bore out the block to a bigger cc? Presently its 3.4 but reckon should goto to 3.7.

Well hope to see a few comments.

good day.

My mate reckons I can easily run 20psi boost if I mod the engine a little.

Is a safari turbo worth going for?

I have the same engine and mine has a 3inch exhaust from turbo back. Mine runs 13psi allday everyday. Im going to go front mount simply for the fact, I cant fit a topmount under my bonnet. Ive been told that the way to do a front mount with a 13bt is to move the radiator back and use a different shroud and slip the intercooler in there. The plumbing seems a bit of a nightmare but i have a decent idea how to run it. If anyone has pics of a 13bt intercooled please post them up.

Yap .. and with a huge turbo housing also increase the lag ..

Actually I don't think you need change the turbo .. w ith the same CT26 you can reach easy 20 PSI with nice % of eficiente .. ( over 70% that's good ) and the proper air flow ( CFM ) for your engine ..

Just need to be sure if the diesel pump can flow all diesel that you need for really get performance from 20 PSI of boost ..

Dunno about you but i have no room what so ever for a top mount cooler.
Mine spikes 15psi every now and then but it sits on 13psi constantly. I just watch my egts

I fitted the Ct28 turbo on and set the boost for 13psi. Sometimes goes to 16psi but not above. Ct28 trubo has improved performance a little at low end.
I doubt I can fit an intercooler under the bonnet and will have to got for a front mount.

Actually you place an intercooler to cool down your EGT and yes, colder air = more Oxigen = more boost ..

But the main reson are your EGT to allow more boost in your intake. How are your EGT right now .. ?

Not a stroker from what I read, just oversize. A stroker means a different crank and rods.
3B, 13B/t, 14B/t all have 102mm bore size.
3B, 13B/t, have 105mm stroke.
14B/t hase 112mm stroke
and the 15Bt has 108mm bore size and 112mm stroke.
So when you oversize, it will have better performance but it wont be a 14BT in size unless you are stroking it as well.

Just wondering ..

Using 13B or 14B pistons in a 2H 98mm to 102mm

Or 15B on 14B

I am going for the 14Bt 112mm stroke. The head I was just going to leave it alone. So I should in theory have a 14Bt...almost.

Not sure on this. It depends on weather that much can be taken out of the bores. I am hoping so on the 14b to 15b scenario.

Sounds like a good plan. Although I reckon you would do better to do a little head work as well to help it flow the extra cubes.

What's going on with all this CT28 talk! This manifold i've brought (safari) is supposed to suit a CT28 - i assumed the seller had confused it with a t28 as the safari's are meant to use a garret turbo. But i've heard a number of people refer to a CT28, though i've never actually seen one.

Dunno, perhaps folk becomming confused with C and G??? Perhaps eating too many carrots.

Checked my CT28 and has TOYOTA stamped on the side......and as I have not been eating any carrots for a while I cant confuse this with GARRET
