The new 70 Series is a single turbo. HOWEVER, the forthcoming 200 Series (replacement for the 100 Series) is a twin turbo. Won't be released until late this year.

"The 200 Series is based on a new separate-chassis structure" - I read elsewhere they had to make it wider than the 100 series to fit in the new donk. Don't like your chances of getting it into an 80 series...?
Ive just read in 4WD Monthly forum, that one of the new V8s has blown up outside of Roma in QLD, some Toyota D'ship has it in for warranty repairs and they cant find the reason for the blowup.
Also been told that the single turbo is at the height of the chassis rails in the left of the engine and about 300mm above the road!! Alternator is also low exposing it directly to mud, water etc, doesnt even have a bashplate or anything.
Looks like its a drive roads only kind of truck, for the moment, mb series 2 will be different!!!!! Doh

I am tipping that if you can fit a 6.5lt Chev V8 Turbo into an 80 series, you can probably shoehorn a toyota 4.5 V8 in too.
Toyota have made the engine bay wider in the 70 series to accomodate the new plant, but the 70 series was narrow to begin with. Plus I think this had more to do with the extra cooling required for the bigger donk - the old 70 series did have a narrower radiator to fit the layout. The 80 series should be okay.

Thats what i ment...definately a take to Toyota for service motor...the intercooler covers the motor, the injecter lines disappear under pipework...looks a nightmare to work on...that was my drift...and you want to put one in your 80...id be driving in and driving out with a lighter wallet and enjoying the ride....after they bring out the s2
intercoolers are two clamps, 4 bolts lift off job (got a intercooled prado here- thats a 2 bolt, 2 clamp job)
try crawling underneath one to find the oil filter.
and if your fiddling with the injectors or lines, you've busted it and you shouldnt be touching it- Common rails arent DIY friendly!

It's all down to emissions. Emissions legislation is one of the big factors limiting diesel output. Also, Toyta are typically very conservative with their tuning to maximise reliability.
I would have thought the maximum HP of a 4.5 litre V8 will only be marginally higher than a 4.2 litre 6 in any case. I can't see 140 hp in 300cc.

I thought it was only the 7x series had to have the chassis widened, as they were narrowoer than the 80/100.
Be interesting to throw a tape across the V8 chassis mounts and hte HZJ105 and HZJ80 and compare.
Also - anyone know if the bell housing and crankshaft outputs are the same. Could bolt up to earlier Gearboxes then.
Finally, is the Gearbox and Engine ECU tied to each other. If not, swapping gets easier.
