I would go for the 31x10.5 tyres on the 15" rims purely because they are cheaper and more common.

The height is going to be roughly the same; if anything you'll gain a tiny bit of diff clearance with the 31s.

For comparison the overall sizes are:

245/75R16: 30.5" diameter, 9.65" width
31x10.5/15: 31" diameter, 10.5" width

So in theory your car will gain 1/4" of diff clearance :)

Of course the actual size of some brands does not match the numbers perfectly anyway.

Go the 15's. they have more tyre protecting the bead. mate at the ateco was running 16's for the first time and got bark in the bead twice.

Yep, as 90% of people will recommend, go the 15" for cost if anything else.

Just to be contrary, the load carrying ability of the 31x10.5R15 doesn't compete with what's available in 245/75R16. Try an extra 200kg per tyre.

One is good for a little over 1000kg per tyre, the other maybe 1200kg per tyre. Check out the maximum pressure for each, too.

The 15" tyres are definitely more common, but I would consider the 16" tyres to be tougher.
