Mark...12 is optimum, the hdt has a nasty habbit of shedding turbo vanes, thats why the hdft has a bigger housing....at 15 you will be going backwards unless you intercool as the inlet turbine will be working out of its optimum range and will therefore heat up the inlet charge.

Get a Pyro and let us know your EGT range .. you must keep under the safe number 1250F ( pre turbo - exhaust manifold probe )

For better performance you must need to adjust your fuel to match the new volume of Oxigen that you have available ..

I've seen 1HD-T at 14 PSI with broken conrod .. ;) (without intercooler )

sweet, ill chuck it back down to 12 then, do i need to adjust the fuel still?
im searching for another engine to rebuild so it will handle big boost, so its prolly a good thing i keep this one going for a while..

cheers mark..

ps i still cant find that green box bud, would it have been placed somewhere else in the sahara?

As Andrew said, the turbo will be in the danger zone at 15psi.

Also, the aneroid on the pump will go into overboost if the pressure sensed is too high and will start pulling fuel out again, so big boost doesn't always = better performance.

wound it down to 12 this morning and it goes heaps better, so i guess what you just said about the aneroid is true as at 15 it didnt feel as good.

cheers mark..

so just a question
if i get my other motor it is getting a strip down and rebuilt, high mount turbo with a different turbo and intercooled.. and i still going to have problems with the aneroid thing on the fuel pump?

I currently have the same issue, there are 3 ways to get around it:

1. Just have the aneroid set up for higher boost levels, i.e. more spring pre-load, however in your current stock truck this will have a negative effect on low rpm response unless you increase max. fuel screw.

2. Make a spacer or use some washers to fit under the boost compensator shaft to prevent it travelling into overboost

3. Source an aftermarket Japanese BC which doesn't have the overboost profile ground onto it.

:D ..

Enjoy .. you never know how much produce from a turbo engine until get proper amount of fuel .. :D

Install a Pyro and be carefull on your EGT .. keep in 14 PSI and you will be fine ..

IN facto you don't gonna drive up to 14 PSI the hole way or yes ? :?

did you mean do i drive it around on 14psi every time i drive?
if so yes i am mostly, i have a duel stage boost controller, i have set the low to 10psi and the high to 14psi, on the hwy i sometimes flick the switch to lower it to 10 psi.

cheers mark

Thanks for your patient with my english ..

Yes I drive 2 turbo diesel cruisers .. and you sometimes push the pedal to floor and need the full boost .. but most of the time I'm driving at 5 - 6 PSI ..

And actually I like it .. coz I don't strees the engine hole time ..

not a problem...
yeah your spot on there, mine sits at around 10psi on the hwy doing 100k
but it does drop like you say to 5-6 psi in town..
