"why" not a q chop "but"

Post by flexit »

hay i want to do a rear quarter chop to gain extra clearance and a better deparcher angel "but" if i can't get the petty tank and the tow bar up and out of the way at least level with the bottom of the chop its not worth doing i dont think . " but" I'm asking why would you bother chopping panels out of the way just to have tow bar & petrol tank still hanging down or ar there other reasons four doing this apart from chopping to fit big rubber . doooo tellll????????? if its ok to lift the tank and bar up ????

Hey flexit.

heres a couple of photos of when i cut mine up. The tow bar was flipped and rewelded in as the rear cross member. It was engineered as a tow bar and not just a recovery point as long as i boxed it back and welded 6mmplate to the chassis rail.
As for the tank, if you have a body lift just move it up that much, or get a custom one built like i had to.

cheers smitty :D

also cut about a foot off the chassis rails

the main reasons for doing a rear 1/4 chop is..............
if you have a large rock(or obsticle:D) to navigate over , rather that high centering it , you will drive a wheel over it , therefore the wheel will drop off the rock & crush your large bulbous rear 1/4 !!!

unless you have 13" of clearance !!!!
now make with the pics !!!! :D :D

well if you have stiff springs cutting it will make it flex worse cause there isnt as much weight on the back to push it down, also a chop will decrease the weight of the car which can be a good thing in some cases.

Since when has any Patrol been stiff in the rear end? That's the end that does flex, it's the front that doesn't. All the chop does is stop you from bending up your rear quarters when you smash them on rocks, and it's only a matter of time before you will smash them on something.
What's the difference between ignorance and apathy? I don't know and I don't care.

Well IMO... :D

You do the rear quater chop to wrap a bar around that you can slide on, incase you do what the chappy above has suggested will happen. Also when you drop your rear quarters onto rocks you tend to smash those little expensive :bad-words: tail lights... Rap around rear bar... protect quaters AND lights.
