80 series suspension 4" or 6"
ok atfer sum advice,
I will be recieving my tax cheque soon and will be starting my suspension lift.
Now my problem is 4" or 6"
I lean toward 6" for the extra clearance to save my bars, panels and such. But I relise I then would most likely need to do a -
Part time conversion kit
High steer
front tail shaft (maybe cardinal)
flip the front arms
This is alot of extra cost over the 4" which needs none of these. Can I get away with out doing any of these for a while with the 6" or do they need to be done with the lift.
I also do not want to do a bodylift.

hey sniper had same sort of dillema as you.
i run 4" dobinson springs and am very happy with them, 3 deg castor bushes.
my mate has just purchased 6" dobinsons and can barely leave his driveway
in the rear i measure from bottom of rim to bottom of flare 900mm. he measures 970mm currently (bare in mind his are brand new springs)
there is no cheap option but what do i think would be better in the long run?
4 springs and 2 body
i dont plan to do a bodylift either (yet...) and i am certain i could easily fit 35's under without scrubbing.
add castor plates, front shaft, part time kit, brake lines and handbrake etc for 6"
upper and lower control arms? adjustable snake raceing perhaps?
have fun

G'day sniper, if you don't plan for your 4WD to be a daily driver then spend the extra couple of dollars and buy the 6's, I just have.
Unfortunatly 'rezpkt' is a good friend of mine but don't listen to him... hes just jealous that he bought 4's and now i have 6's, makes his look stock.

6" lift to run 37" or more ?
Actually 35" goes very well with 4" ( and with 3" also ) adjustable panhards or drop brakets .. ( for panhards or control arms ) caster plates .. etc ..
CV front drive shaft in order to keep the Full time setup ..

x3. Ive used 4 inch Dobbinson springs (and 1 inch spring packers) and run 35 inch Simex and there is more than enough room. Would definately get away with just a 4 inch lift without any scrubbing...mud4b wrote:agreed 3" and 4" will run 35" tyres great as you say.Tapage wrote:6" lift to run 37" or more ?

I am aware that a 4" will fit the 35`s I was just after advice on which kit to run, the 4" or the 6". Was mainly after pro`s and the cons. And if I needed the extra stuff fitted as the price jumps alot when added to the lift.
I am really leaning towards the 6" now.

6" is higher than 4" Good for off-road till you get the car on a side angle it will roll 2"s easier
Easy get a 5" lift and longer shocks on the rear so you can really flex it up.

Hey there sniper, I`ve recentlly had the same issue as you.
I went 6 inch lift, bottom of rim to underneath flare/wheelarch is 940mm
but Im told will drop a little.
36`s just scrub at full flex.
Additional things on top of buying complete tough dog kit are:
RTC steering dampner.
Extended Diff breather set up.
Extend sway bar brackets (as I wanted to keep them on).
Double cardon front shaft, with custom adapter. (still got vibration tho)
Transfer cross member spacer.
Still got vibration in the rear slightly even after fitting part time kit.
About to make adjustable top rear arms for it.
Hope this is some help, as I have also struggled to find info, mostly trial
and error now, hopefully not to much error!!!

The moose is on the loose!
now how much did you pay for that tough dog kit?
rear vibration has nothing to do with front part time kit, its because of the uni's getting too much angle, as you said, adjustable top arms will fix this mine is ok on a 5", just notice it more when the uni's are getting a bit old
check out Suspension Stuff, not sure about the 6" but i worked out for a prettymuch complete 5" (springs/shocks/castor plates} was $1500 or something, extended brake lines and diff breathers are worth about $100 or your local stores and if you can fit up 5" lift then you can do your own lines and breathers
we moved mine into the engine bay for both front and back diff, you will also want to cut off your rear brake angle thingo (i dont know what its called) because when your diff is dropped down on too much angle your brakes dont work correctly, i just cut mine off and ziptied it up..works a treat

DOUBLE CARDAN ADAPTOR
Hey there I have the double cardan adaptors to suit your front shaft. They will allow you to run up to 7 inch lift with no vibrations. will require you to get a shaft built to suit though. saves on free wheeling kit.

BBM will always do you a deal if you buy your kit through them. usually around the 2k mark.
I will most proabbly be getting lovels or king springs and definetly pro comp shocks. And th rest of the usual stuff needed, brake lines, pan hard .....
I will fit the castor correction plates till I have made up my mind on the x-link or 5 link. Only want to do this once (famous last words )
Most likely will have to fit the coils before I order my shocks to get the right size

5" coils and 29" shocks work good
coils comes a little lose, havnt tied mine in yet but they havnt fallen out, so if you dont want to tie it in then get a 28" shock
if you get any bigger shocks you will prob most likly have to modify the rear top mounts on more angle otherwise you will smash them up pretty quick
