G/box problem?????.

Post by dkne5 »

Hi all,I have a 02 patrol,I recently changed out the gearbox transfer oils, what its the correct tool for undoing the fill bung,The reason I ask is I dropped the oil from g/box undid the drain bung with a 1/2" breaker bar(no probs).

However when I went to undo the fill bung it was so unbelievably tight I semi stuffed the bung due to the 1/2" bar having a little bit of slop.
There was no way this sucka was coming out, anybody else had this drama???.

Because I was 300k from home I had to remove shifter to fill box with oil.Pain in the arse at least I don't have to do it for another 50,000k.
Anybody got any thoughts on how to get this fill bung out to replace it.

Thanks in advance.dkne5

I would try putting a bit of heat into the case surrounding the bung to help free it up.

I know it is too late for you now, but it is always a good idea to remove the fill plug before the drain plug. Just in case you end up in the situation that you did.

in hindsite I should have checked both bungs first, however you'd think at 90,000k's and oil having never been changed it wouldn't be that tight.
