Straight Gas options
I'm down to two option's for running straight gas on my p76 powered rangie....
Strip and seal carby keeping the butterfly (350 holley) run an elbow off the top with an impco 225 mixer quoted $450 for a new mixer + tuning $300+ on dyno??
Gas research drive in, drive out $1700+
What I'm really asking is the GRA stuff worth that $1000 more? and why?
Anyone else wanna chuck another option out there for me?
Cheer's

God of Magnificant Ideas!
Try either a wrecker or start going to a few swap meets.
I picked up a Spring Gas setup ( mixer, converter, safety switch & wiring ) for $80 at the last swap meet I went to. A local wrecker had an Impco system for $200 last time I saw him, so they are about.
As for ya carby mods, all you need is the butterfly setup, so converting ya holley is one way of doing it or better still fit a throttle body from an injected motor.
I made one up recently thats a 2 stage throttle body.......
took 2 throttle bodies from the same small jap cars, mounted em on an addaptor plate that fitted the inlet manifold, ran one throttle body direct to the throttle cable and the 2nd throttle body I linked up as a secondary throttle, ( similar to a 4bbl carby ). The 2nd body opens about mid throttle position of the first and is linked so it moves twice as fast, this way both throttles are fully open at the same point.
Had I have had more time I'm sure I could have made it a vac secondary rather then a "double pumper" style
I then made another plate to bolt on top of the "throttle" and then added 2 tubes to gain height over my linkage setup, another plate that fitted the base of the mixer was then added to the top of the 2 tubes.
All done in alloy, took around 5 hours from start to drive it !
It was fited up to a 253 V8 and works better then magic

Planning on it, I also like to know the price of stuff brand new as well so I dont get caught out like alota people do when in "bargin" modeV8Patrol wrote:Try either a wrecker or start going to a few swap meets.
chances of a pic or two and how you went about sizing them?V8Patrol wrote:I made one up recently thats a 2 stage throttle body.......

Didn't happen without picsV8Patrol wrote:Try either a wrecker or start going to a few swap meets.

So with my GQ on gas and petrol i can go in and get it put to straight gas and then claim the rebate? If so who else knows about this as i would do this with mine if it can be done.

Car isnt registered yet so I "think" that render's me in-elligable, thats just hearsay though so who knowsget the gas research install done on the grant for free, as long as your tank is in date and the car hasn't previously had the grant used on it your laughing. never mind the other half assed combos out there, do it right and possibly for free if your elligable.
GRA is winning though, kinda of on a set a forget type option... never as fun as building something but i wont do it 3 times with the GRA stuff

Hi Shakes,
I am setting up a GRA system on my Rangie, i have a series 2 Disco inlet manifold and the GRA mixer basically bolts straight on (mine is at an engineer getting the mounting holes slightly slotted) bought my system second hand ebay $400.00 The location of the butterfly is almost exactly the same as the SII throttle body so throttle cable remains stock.
Over the next month i should have some photos for you, i am trying to find someone to run my lines and provide wiring diagram to sparky.
I have some impco stuff for sale if you want to go that way.
Cheers
Steve
PS you can see images of my project in post your rovers page 16

ok after picking up a cheap impco 225 mixer, I'm gunna go the throttle body set-up. anyone got something suitable floating around they wanna donate for beer?
In drunken conversation on the weekend a mate mentioned get the commodore 5ltr TB graft the dizzy onto mine, and use either the factory delco or get a mega squirt for spark control.
I know it wont improve the power greatly(if at all) but it should keep the spark strong and make it just that little smoother.
Too many head ache's for too little gain??

Now for the barrage of un-educated questions
- Rocker breathers before or after the TB?
- mixer as close as possible or as far away as possible from TB?
- any particular TB is better than another for the application what's recomended? thinking something off an XF falcon $10 and 73mm how much goes into sizing these things?
anything else a gas novice should know?
still no pic's kingy
