Ford Crossflow Engine type
On the weeked my G60 wouldnt start and at 1st thought was suspected starter motor. Then looked like it was a flat battery after it started to crank after charging teh battery
Well got home and hooked up the jumper leads and started up the beast. Checked the voltage and me alternator is stuffed. Getting same output voltage as battery.
I admit I like my Fords but dont have a clue what model ford crossflow engine this is. My mate reckons a xb vintage but personally no idea.
I'd rather get a alternator of the same model to bolt straight up.
HELP anyone

That would be a 250 from cortina and early falcon (pre XE)
As pointed out, it appears to have a cast iron head, not alloy as found in XE falcons onwards.
Should be a piece of cake to find another one, theyre a dime a dozen

Cast Iron head is either XC or XD. Later XD onward alloy head.
Almost all 6cyl Falcons from 71 through to 88 have the same alternator.

Cast iron crossflow head
Wanted: Car trailer or beaver tail truck, let me know what you got
are you sure on that? the cast head crossflow i got my conversion kit off of had the same alt as theone in the pic, whereas the alloy head in the 40 has a different alternator, which is the same as the one in my XEcloughy wrote:^^^^^x2 its either XC or early XD---79, very early 80 XDSwerve wrote:Eddy has said http://www.rmp-o.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=1070

The engine from my 73 ute is sitting in the shed with that alt upon it, I have another 2 alts in the shed from assorted 70s Falcons, the 81 iron head in my G60 has that alt, my XY, 2 XAs, XB, XD, XE, 3 EAs had it, as did my TD Tincorna and my current EA. I also had an XD ute with a different alternator.
So ... yeah ... pretty sure
That same alt is also fitted to my Leyland Terrier truck, and my son's 720 datto ute. Also had the same on my 302 XA coupe and my 289 XR.

Thats certainly not a 200ci
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Straight-6_engine
Theres a list of all falcon 6 engines and their capacities. (3/4 down page)
At the top of the page on the right you can see a 170 straight 6, this is more like what the 200 ci looks like.
Your right chimp, would be a great time to whack in a later model ford 6, as it should pretty much bolt straight in ! ED 4.0 MPFI, would need manual computer, and pre smartlock. not too difficult, and fairly easy to get hold of too.

Its a 200ci crossflow. looks just like a 250 with a smaller stroke
200 came in both pre-crossflow and crossflow heads, even up to alloy head 2
EA on as your suggesting have a different bellhousing pattern and slightly different engine mounting hole
Just need a computer, as one from an auto will run either
And pre smartlock wouldn't come from an ED would it

Iron head crossflow in the XD still had blue rocker coversStruth wrote:It will be an XC crossflow, and the blue rocker cover makes it a 200 Cui, 250s had red rocker covers.
XDs on had black or silver rocker covers I think, but it's been a while.
Cheers

Certainly not an internet education, from what i can see in the pic, i reckon the starter is along side the sump (the 200 was along side the block, above the sump if i remember right) Hard to see in those pics, i must admit. But that said, you could be quite right. Im more than happy to admit im wrong.....cloughy wrote:Ahhh the joys of internet educationtj81 wrote:Thats certainly not a 200ci

Pre smart lock i was referring to the ECU, not the engine. Only the 3 speed auto computer would be any good though, the 4 speed electronic is a different ECU.

Smarlock can be overriden, either with a box unit or get the ECU modded, mob called EMF automotive in QLD do it

There are a few things to consider if dropping an EL Engine into your EA.
You have the serpentine belts to consider. If swapping your existing ea stuff onto the EL motor, you will also need to grind off some of the front of the sump to get the harmonic balancer pulley to bolt on to the EL engine correctly. (Or swap timing covers)
http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=57713
Excellent Tutorial on whats required for a serpentine belt conversion. Your other option of course is to bolt on all the EA gear to your EL engine.
The other thing to think of is fuel injection. If your car is MPFI, job is easy. If its CFI, then ECU, fuel pump, and ditributor mods are required.

ok so in saying that i should just swap the heads??Eddy wrote:yup ... same motor, only real difference is whats bolted to the head.
Early EA motors were either 3.2 or 3.9 litre. Later motors all 4.0 litre, but all the other stuff is the same.
then rewire,
run a VL fuel pump..
and it should be good for another heep of kw's and drivability?
