Oil capacities?

Post by vanbox »

did some searching and couldnt find anything reliable. im after a few things.
first of all, the oil capacities for everything on my 2001 GU 4.2L turbo diesel (factory) manual ute
engine -
gearbox -
transfer -
rear diff -
front diff -

2nd : what are the recommended thickness (correct term???) for all the above oils (DIFFS HAVE AIR LOCKERS).

i realise u can fill it up to where it last was, but just incase it was done wrong before and so i know roughly how much to get.

anyone feel free to post on here their vehicle if they require the same information.

thanks

You fill it up till if flow's out the fill line.

Cant remeber exact but it's around 4 ltrs for diff's and 6-7 for gearbox. been nearly 18months too.

go into burson's/repco etc they have the oil list's AND capicity's in a nice folder behind the counter... they will also sell you a gregory's manual so you dont have to get a half assed reply like mine again :finger: :D

engine is 7.6L for my 4.5 petrol, i think its just a little bit more for the td42.

for the diffs just fill till it starts to flow out. i usually park on a angle so i can get a little more in.

I have TD42 non turbo.

Engine oil with the 2 filters takes about 10-11L of good quality oil like Castrol RX Super, not sure if it will take more with the turbo or not.

Can't remember off the top of my head the capacities of the gearboxes and such but you just fill it till the oil comes out the filler plug, this is the correct way to do it.

For the Gearbox i use 75W90 Castrol Transmatic oil for Gearboxes and Transaxles

The diffs if you have lockers you need to run a LSD based oil to keep them running ok. LSX90 from Castrol is good, but the 140 is better as it can handle more heat, and a locker will put more heat into it.

the front is more due to the high pinion. remember the centre is effectly flipped compared to the rear. have a look at where the filler plugs are. i would say the gearbox would be around 4l. only ever filled then with pumps out of 60litre drums
