100 series diff center in 60 series??
I read that the 100 series diff centers were the same as the 60 series. Looking at chucking a 100 series LSD in my FJ62.
Safe and easy or not?

yeah 100 series diffs wont go, but 80 series diffs do. I have an 80 series rear diff in my hj61 which is fitted with an air locker. In the near future i plan to get the rear LSD out of an 80 and shim it up to put in the front.

LSD front is the absolute worst of all worlds. you would be far better off with the locker in the front and the shimmed LSD in the rear, although even that is a pretty gay combination. if you want traction, don't muck around, get a locker. on the rocks, hill climbs etc where you need it, the fromt LSD will operate like an open diff and you will get very limited assistance. in mud/slippery conditions, especially off-camber situations, the LSD will behave like a locker and you will go straight ahead or plough against the direction the tyres are pointed - it really is a disappointing combination. save up and/or wait for the front locker, you won't look back. if you go to the trouble of getting a LSD in there, you'll end up on the hunt for a locker anyway, and pulling the front apart is a mini-mission especially if you'r egoing to do it twice.

I shimed an lsd in the front of a 60 and not long after put an auto locker in...the lsd doesnt do much...for the work involved, it would be better putting an autolocker in whats there now...the lsd hemi is stronger...thats the only advantage...not that rings go crunch to often in the front or back of a 60...dumbdunce wrote:hijack!vSAHARAx wrote:hey there

I have a 60 series lsd in the rear and an 80 series lsd in the front of my 60 and find them both great. The little bit of assistance they give gets me through most obsticals with ease. What I like is the challenge of not having lockers. I've had all the bullsh#$@ gear in my 4by's before and found I wasn't enjoying the "challenge" of off roading. All I seemed to do was drive around on Hard and sometimes extreme off road tracks without problem and some of my mates with less capable vehicles were having all the fun. I now have a less capable vehicle and am having fun again...
