The turbo engine has oil squirters onto the inside of the pistons to help with piston cooling.
which is exactly why I need a turbo block before I spend lot's of money modifying the old SD33.
not really. just because you want a turbo on your SD33 doesnt mean you have to have a turbo thats to the same spec as an SD33 T. there is no drama in running an aftermarket one with different oil cooling methods etc. and the boost doesnt have to be as high.... if setup right anything can be done....

with regards to needing a block. you will need more than that. im sure the head will have minute differences... and you will need pistons etc etc etc so you would need a complete block with the lot in it, with which u may as well get the head as its like an extra 20 kgs of weight......
If you want to stay straight forward, just get an SD33 T motor.
other wise see the aftermarket performance guys that do turbo conversions everyday of the week, im sure if you tell them the differences between yours and a turbo they would be able to rig up things that can be put in place with after market systems to do the job.....

my mate who now owns my old shorty fitted the vl turbo (t3-04) to a home made manifold made from extactors, still uses the original throttle body,
has wound up the fuel delivery a bit, a mechanic done this and he said he gave it 7-8% more fuel, then advanced the pump shot timing a tad to avoid detination,
he runs 9lbs of boost,

it has 376,000kms on it with new injectors being the only new parts.
he runs 33"x15"x12.5" muddys, 4sp, it runs warmer when giving it a hiding in the slow gear, it's never run over 92'c (capilary action gauge)
but other than that it has no intercooler just plain sd33t plumbing(except the exuast manifold)

this donk rattles like hell but dosn't miss a beat,
this is a stock sd33 block, never touched internaly, blows a bit a smoke off boost but he believes its a sound set up, i drive it now and then and it seems like a stock sd33t, without looking under the bonet,
nobody would be the wiser!

I turbo'd my sd33 in my 82 MQ swb over a year ago, see build-up for exact date, I am running 8pound boost, up'd fuel pressure with the pump advanced slightly, I also had an I/C for awhile and will go back to that set-up. I had my injectors rebuilt before turboing.
I haven't had any drama's what so ever, I still use the throttle body, and N/A injector pump, All I did to the pump was replace the diaphram that measure's the difference between inlet manifold and atmospheric pressure.
I also installed a pyro, boost and oil pressure guage to moniter things, I don't let exhaust temps above 500degree's ever, but average around 450-480. My exhuast is a 2-1/2 dump pipe into a striaght peice of 3" pipe-That's It!

yeah he used a 2" dump to the chassis hight then into a2 3/4" exaust with a 18" hotdog near the diff, no muffler box, has a sweet truck turbo sound from behind, he did have a pyro gauge but it sh*t itself, it ran around 470-490.
oil runs good, 48-54 psi at running speed, 34 at idle, bit less on hot days.
still uses the original govoner diaphram, i'm pretty sure all he did was block off the venturie hose that mesuered vacum.
so it only counts on boost to govern fuel delivery..

What is the point of blocking the venturi?
Am I understanding you correctly when you say that he blocked it to stop fuel governing untill boost comes on?
Why is this good? I don't understand why this is/would be done. Does it blow alot of smoke untill boost comes on?
Plese don't think I'm being rude, I am genuinely interested. Also do you know what rev. range the boost starts to kick in?

i'm not so sure why he did it i will ask him when i see him next, i supose it would be becouse it never makes vacume off boost.
if it was me i wouldn't block it off, as i'm sure it would need adjusting all the way (the govner) so it wouldnot rev out at idle, cos thats what it'd do.
it starts to boost from about 1400rpm to full boost at 1750-1800rpm, same as my factory sd33t, but thats with a big exuast, mine standard made boost a bit later with a small pipe.
