80 series factory cruise control, auto to man?

Post by mud4b »

hi all

does anyone know how a manual sahara would send the signal to the factory cruise control?

my old one never worked as i changed it from a auto to a man. i take it the pickup (or whatever it is) is in the auto box. but my new sahara is factory manual, it has all the plugs for hookup as far as i can see but i just bolted the control unit (the part with the electric motor and accellerator cables) and the control stick on the steering column and gave it some revs and tried to set it..
but nothing happened.. does the car have to be moving? or what am i missing?

cheers mark.

the cruise runs off the spedo...on earlier pre 92 they had cable and a doover on the back of the spedo...but on later than that they use the pulse generator on the box that does the spedo signal...

The factory cruise set up has a different brake light switch ( 4 pin ) the wiring has the 4 pin plug but the switch only has 2 pins( get the correct switch ) 2 of the pins do the brake lights and the other 2 tell the cruise ecu the the brake is being applied and cancle the cruise, also i had to put a switch on the clutch pedal ( i used the brake light switch i removed to fit the 4 pin switch and screws staight in ) the switch was connected to the wiring that went to the auto as the cruise only works in "D" so if you manually shift the auto it canceled the cruise. If you have a factory manual there fault codes the ecu send out to the CC light in the dash and thats how i found what was going on on mine when i fitted it i also had to fit the pod thingy on the speedo drive to sent the speed signal to the ecu and wired it direct to the ecu ( 3 wires ) Mine was the 93 update with the electronic speed but still needed the pod thingy to be fitted.

The manual Sahara never had cruise, nor did any manuals up until ~1995 AFAIK.

So how did you get it "sussed"?
