Post by Red_Zook »

Well my coon has become to much to daily driven no (price of fuel etc)

any ways i have this....

Image
now thinking of doing a ute chop with the difrence.. as in swb tub tray...
weld up back door so makeing it a full tub... so folow the lines of the window back and over the roof...
roll bar simply for bling... with lights and stuff
and a front bar...
a lick of pain the same as my comp truck

the thing is its motor
well its shagged...
i have a 1.6 saturn motor with 4 speed box, that i can get for $50
woot woot...

although i have never sceen a zook with a galant 1.6 in it.. it should go well....

need this thing going in 2 weeks for when nic beer comes for a visit!!!

might even lift it a bit to startwith!
but should be a good toy!

any other thoughts??
or things i have missed??

oh does any one have a heter core out of one of these laying about??
im missing mine!!

i think from memory the saturn motor has the exhaust exit on the drivers side.... could be a problem.. other than that it shouldn't be too hard to fit.

i think you should carefully remove the rear door and weld that behind the targa bar, to give a proper cab... then using the back door from a softy, make the full ute in the back =)

so its a full cab, ute, but its all body... not a "tray" so to speak. That'd be nice!

DONT CUT IT!!!!!
its only a daily driver, although you would get better milage out of the coonwagon. For all this money you are spending doing this you could just use the coon to drive around in. Forget this, and keep on your other build. For the right price i have a buyer for the hardtop. BUT DONT CHOP IT, they look crap!.

thats the actual plan
not a ute chop as such..
it will be all body no tray!!
i love the look of the gq swb's utes (chopes aswell)
see zook60's gq b4 he fully choped the back off it!!
it will be pimp..

ok heres a 30secon paint chop....
Image

it will still very muchly be a zook
that almost looks too clean and rust free to chop. But pics are decieving
yes very deceving!!
the rear door and hinges are fawked beyond fixing!
come to think of it.. i have a soft top rear door though ;)
and there is lots of rust in the roof

That pretty much looks the same as mine!

Why didn't you just get a soft top and sheet the back wall? Or did you get it cheap?

Image

A ute chop used to be on the cards but i got talked out of it so some time i'll get some one to frame it out and sheet it with perspex as a rear window! Then weld the rear door shut!

Personally, as a daily driver i'd rather have it as a hard top. You can carry stuff, you can lock stuff up, you can keep warm.

There is very little strength in the body of a HT if you chop the roof off it. It woudl be far eaiser and a better outcome to source a soft top tub and swap it in.

There is much more strength in a soft top around the B pillar and the top of the tub.

Just my 2c

if i wana lock stuff up i iwll put it inside the cab lol.. it will look like a full ute cab...
i will also be able to cary stuff in the tray!!!
oh and in reguards to strength, im going to make up a fraim out of rhs to go round the inside of the chop (also gives somethingto attach the window 2) and round the tub of the ute...
wait and see this is some thing that has never been done on this sight.. (i think)

PS...
it will be wheeled alot 2.. it will be my daily pimp box 2...

Looks like most Tasmanian things, especially women - Rough and ready. Make it a true Tassmanian, give it two roofs.

Yep, looks a prime candidate for a chop. Are you gonna put a new motor in it or keep the mighty 1L?

You forgot the "leave it as it is, gaffa tape over the rust and get the real car done instead" option.
