That rangie on ebay is a POS I went and had a look (I'm on uni holidays now so nothin better to do ) and I'd say it's worth about 1200, not 2750.
It's for sale at a wrecking yard

RANGE ROVER, 1983, original metallic green paint, velour interior, 6mths rego, S'Cert, Holly carbie conversion, air cond, running 31in Yoko's on 8in rims, perfect mechanical cond, well cared for vehicle -$4500 ono
Any comments.
Holly might give you trouble off road they don't like the slopes that much.
you should be able to get one with all original gear on it for $3k. Personally I don't like the early rangies that have had carb/engine converstions away from their original spec.
Get one with the 3.5 with the Strombergs, lt95 (4 speed manual) and lt230 transfer case. These are dead easy to get running smoothly.
You will need an upgrade of the 10spline axels which they all had until 1992 I think. Shop around and find a disco front and rear axel housing, which will take you to 24 spline which are much stronger. That is probably the cheapest axel/diff updrade

AFAIK the lt95 and transfercase are one unit and can not be seperated....there was never a 4 speed offered with a lt230 t/case..only a 5 - the lt77 which is not as strong as the lt95
Have checked around and the lt95 is what we have in our (army) landies. Everything I've done to them over the years and still havn't managed to brake one. So I don't have a problem with driving a four speed box. any areas I should look for rust, the lux should be ready to sell in a week, hopefully it'll move quick and I can seriously look at getting into a rangie
