Gu front into GQ

Post by Draven »

Hi Guys,

Just wondering if some ppl might be able to share a bit of info regarding putting a GU front into a GQ.

My questions are:

1) Do i need to get a GU rear too ? Can i just fit the front and have it drive ok, ive been told that the GU diff is about 20mm wider.

2) I currently have a adjustable drag link , but ive been told the tapers in the GU diff and steering box are slightly different ?

3) Are there any other 'gotchas' i should be aware of before fitting ?

Thanks to anyone that replies!

most people generally only put the front in as the rear is only 40mm wider and has no strength difference. If you are doing a gu front you may aswell put in a gu power steering box(stronger). buy a gu steering arm. taper is the same i think but can't use gq arm as the gu diff is too wide and possible run out of thread

I only did the front. I put a GU steering box in aswell but I used both of my GQ heavy duty adjustable steering arms and there was heaps / enough thread to adjust. Not sure if you are using standard steering arms though.

won't threading them out weaken them?

GU FRONT

The tappers are different, you will just flog things out if you mix them up. The steering arm for GU is longer. GU steer box and diff is best combo. It may worth looking into a late model GQ brake booster as the GU has larger brakes.
