1995 Feroza F300 EFI Coil Help Reqd.

1995 Feroza F300 EFI Coil Help Reqd.
I got an auto parts place to get me a new coil. They looked up their Bosch catalogue an ordered me a BIC518.
When it arrived the plug in the bottom was different to the one i currently have in there.
The one they gave me has a 3 pin plug where mine only has 2 smaller pins. See pic. I checked the wiring in the roza and it is original.

Took it back and they rang the Bosch ppl and the bloke said he had never heard of this issue b4 and suggested i get a new plug wired into my car to suit the new coil.
Just after a bit of help from other roza owners.
What does your plug look like is it the same as mine in the pic?
Has anyone had issues with replacing their coil?

The coil you have is actually for an A101 Applause, its electrically correct
as the Applause uses the same engine as the Feroza - but the plug is different.
Don't go swapping coils over at random - stick with catalog recomendations - just because it looks the same, doesn't mean it
is electrically compatable. The Ignition module in the HD engines is
very average so don't experiment....
To drive home the point, Bosch don't recomend fitting any of the performance coils to this module.

The coil listed in the bosh cataloge (sp?) for the feroza is exactly the same as the one recommended for the applause. ie BIC518.
So are you saying the one thay have listed is for the applause only and the roza one should be different?
I don't plan on changing the plug to suit the coil. I want to get one that actualy fits what i have got.

Clint, I just checked my '92 model and I reckon the coil you've got would fit.
It's got a three pin plug with spade type terminals in it and one is missing. Only the two that are parallel are used.
Hopefully that will help you out a bit- if you need any polarity checks then just PM me. BTW the connector isn't water proof so you could just use some spade connectors to mod your loom if you decided to go that way.

The current ignition coil catalog doesn't list a Feroza coil... however as I
said the Feroza HD-E engine is the same as the Applause ( A101) HD-E
engine so they will be electrically equivalent.
As I am running "Coil on Plug" I don't use the stock ignition anymore
and so can't give you any exact plug info....

I think the issue is there are various revisions for both the Feroza and Applause throughout the years they were made (eg. electrical changes, different radiators etc.) A lot of aftermarket manufacturers do not differentiate between the different years and often seem to assume that all the models are the same- eg. I got caught out when I ordered a radiator and then found out there are at least three different radiator styles that aren't interchangeable. Some of the changes correspond to the Feroza front grille update, but others don't.
My coil plug is totally different to Clint's and it sounds like the coil he's got will fit mine. BTW I think the odds of a part fitting (when "one fits all models") increases when you've got an earlier model like mine.

Sorry David - I have to disagree there....
A multimeter will tell you almost nothing except gross pass/ fail tests
on an ignition coil. Even their impedance isn't that usefull on its own.
THe AC and magnetic characteristics of the coil required complex
equipment to measure. - let alone energy storage.
The number of missmatched coils and modules I have seen is large and
whilst some just dont work as well as they might, others result in failures.
Not that you are advocating random change... but there's more to it
than first is apparent.

I'm an electronics tech so am aware of the issues- I was looking at it purely from a point of view that providing the load doesn't increase then nothing should "blow up"!
Quite likely they are the same igniter modules. I've actually got two distributors here- I think one is off a later model (think I got it off Croz?) and I know they both work fine in my '92.
