split rims and tyre sizes
G'day
well my dad has split rims on his hilux and he is up for new tyres, the rims are standard toyota 16x5.5 and currently have 205r16 tyres on them. the question is how big of a tyre can you put on these rims? he was thinkn of putting 235/75r16 on them but not sure if they are to big for the rims. before any1 suggest changing rims he doesnt want to, he just wants a slightly larger tyre

My best advise is to throw those split rims into the ocean and then jump
for joy and have a party......!!
If you don't wanna change the size much.....you can pick up 7x15's anywhere
for next to nothing and set 'em up with some 30's or 31's (in 15 inch)
It'll be heaps cheaper and you won't believe how much better the Lux will
be to drive.........
I hate split rims............

how big of a tyre can you fit on split rims ? Well i've got Patrol split rims, 16 x 5.5, with 9.00 r16 tyres on them. These tyres measure 36.5 inches (920mm) rolling diameter & about 9.5 inches (240mm) section width. Yes the rims are to narrow, Michelin recomend 6 - 6.5 inch rim, but i've never had a problem. I've had them down to 15 psi for beach work & in the bush down to 18 psi. I've also noticed the beads don't get half as much crap in them as tubeless tyres. Some bloody tuff tyres available in this size too & you can't beat split rims in the bush, IMO.
