over head light bar

Now that i have the new winch bar i have no where to mount spotlights. Im thinking of making a light bar to go above the screen to mount lights to. Has anyone else made / done this and are there any pics of what people have done.

My idea is to bend up a tube and weld light tabs to it and mount it to the bonet bumpers mounting holes above the windscreen.

if you're not fussed on folding your screen down attach it to the scuttle panel below the windscreen as well. The weight of lights on the top of the screen frame (light sheet metal) won't do it any favours over the years.

or cut and shut your nudge bar to work with the tube bar. Almost like a Sahara tube bar

thinking of something like seen on some jeeps and hummers. prob just run 4 rectangle lights.

In my first soft top I ran a spotty on each bonnet stop on the windscreen frame, was ok till someone stuffed the body underneath the lights

im thinkn of the smaller more modern oval style lights mounted to some angle fixed to theframe behind the bonet bumpers. Gotta keep it low and light as not to put too much strain on the frame like james said.

You'd be better off buying two GOOD lights and runing HID's in them. Easier to mount two, two weigh less than four and require less battery power to run them.

just having 2 above the screen would look silly. kinda mickey mouse look.

I dont want to mount them to the winch bar as they will get in the way of the release handle. so the best option was to put rectangle ones above the screen. 4 would look better than just 2.

the problem with that style is that.. when you turn the lights on, if your bonnet is shiny u get blinded!!!
they need to be further back on the roof

I did a spottie bar like that on mine. Which until recently i took off (redesigning). The problem is that they shake a lot when on. You must bolt the bar down really well. The bonnet stop holes are no good you will need to bolt it down. When the lights are on they do reflect off the bonnet (i usually found it worse when the bonnet was dirty) Its tolerable it but at times it did make it tricky to look in the far distance.

The advantages to this design are you don't need to be able to weld, or even to have a tube bender. It's just bolt together.
Though the hard part is getting the notching right on the uprights, apparently.


And the screen says "HOLDEN" because he keeps trying to convince himself it's really a Holden. Even has a holden badge in the grille.

My brother mounted rectangular lights to the mounts on the top of the windscreen. They didn’t project above so weren’t in danger getting whacked by low branches and were in front of the windscreen so didn’t shine on it. I mounted mine to my exo which was basically the same location. I also had a matt black bonnet panel to reduce any glare.
