80 series dash bourd

Post by StuartL »

I have a standard 80 series (91 model) and I am thinking of cutting a whole in the dash for the laptop so that I can run ozzie explorer etc.
The place that I am thinking of is on the passenger side directly behind the handle that is on the dash and above the glovebox, I thought the handle can stay and act as a support for the bottom section od the laptop.
My question is;
Is there any reason why I could not cut a compartment out from there, does the heater lines run that high up or is there anything else that anybody knows of which is behind there?

Thanks in advance.........Stuart.

I had a look today and there is some minor wiring which can be moved but the main channels for the heater / vent run hard up against the dash so I might have to look for another option :cry:

Get a touchscreen and put the laptop under the seat.

I have a 7" touchscreen mounted in my double din space in my 80. runs to a computer under the seat. I use this for my navigation software and also for playing music. The wife finds it useful for saving her photos off the camera when out bush and burning them onto a disk. I have also mounted a camera on the rear and use it on teh touchscreen as well.

i have seen the fold out touchscreens go on ebay for only a couple hundred dollars if you dont want to loses both your radio spots.
