has anyone made one them selves and wat hydraulic pump did u use wat wat motor did u use? i have made the spool and shafts and frame before for customers but i just wondering about rest.

what sort, pto hydraulic sort of thing or the spirit winch?
turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown

like a winch that runs off the power steering or make a seperate system to run the pump straight off the engine.

buddy runs a MM hydraulic in his Ford F-350 with huge reservoir and PS radiator .. and it's really slow no matter what you do ..

It helps and go .. but slow .. and my buddy end buying a new Warn 16.5Ti and placing the hydraulic in rear end ..

hydraulic is fantastic if you fit a separate pump run from a PTO however they really suck when driven from the power steering pump, slow and weak, the pump just doesn't have what it takes to drive a winch; the downside is of course running a PTO, hydraulic pump, reservoir, cooler, lines etc is expensive, so unless you intend to do a LOT of winching, it really isn't viable.

And don't forget the cost! If you have someone who has done it before then they will save you a lot of money. However if they haven't dealt with this type of hydraulic setup then they will cost you a fortune.
93 Nissan Pathfinder / Terrano Turboed VH45, GQ Trans and T-case, coil overs, hydraulic winch and fair bit of other stuff. (Currently a pile of parts in the workshop)

the people i work for own a bussiness that supplies hydrauic fittings and components so i would get the parts cheap. so i mite sit down with my boss and figure it out wat i need and the best way to do it. the main reason i want to do it is cause i thought it would be strong and less maintence.

search is your friend, "Hydraulic winch". I had the exact same Q's and had many good and informative answers from the fellas that deal with it. Well worth the time to search. Just about to put all mine together.

there is a heap of info on here and they work great with the right pump.
i you are going to run it off the power steer tho dont waste your cash ....... a trifor hand winch will be faster and more versitile:P
