Auto and Reduction Gears
Auto's will help climbing with stock sized tyres, however if your running big rubber, adding weight etc to the car then its recommended to get some reduction gears to prevent the auto from overheating. also you will want the reduction gears for descending.

You'll need gears. the trimatic has a tall first gear (2.54:1, from memory) and it will want to bog off the line unless it is geared.
