wiring up a tacho

Post by Rexlux »

Have my new 1KZ - 3.0L turbo diesel going in '84 hilux but cannot get the standard tacho to work. The guys who joined the two looms could not find anything on the 1KZ computer to hook it up to. They suggested connecting it to the alternator. It has the R151F turbo gearbox as well.

Anyone got a suggestion and can give me a diagram.

What is the tacho connected to on a 2L diesel motor?

there's a sender on the fuel pump. same as 3B/2L-T/1HZ etc etc. it's towards the front of the pump, on the 'inside' ie on the engine side of the pump. 2L-TE is the same so I'm guessing the 1KZ-TE is similar.

cheers

the sender is made of aluminium, with an o ring seal, DON"T OVERTIGHTEN! As dumbdunce said on the location.

You can get to it without taking the pump out, but its a real pitta to get on or off. But possible. With the 2L I had to take off inlet manifold etc....
