long travel shocks
long travel shocks
working on a mates sierra it has 2 inch spring 2inch shackles with rancho 5000's there about 560mm long extended from memory which only allows about 50 mm down travel from sitting height stopping flex.
i did a seach and found that most dont like big bore shocks as to hash a ride so commodore VS wagon rears where popular but at 580mm long its not much better.
any other cheap alternatives that are longer or is it big brand name from here????

I got two (2" in spring and SOA and 2"Shackle SOA, both have 45'd rear shocks)
One runs hilux shocks
The other runs Rancho
Rancho are always left on the same setting so I might as well run cheaper lux shocks on both
Some commodore shocks also fit but I don't know which ones

yep waynes black hardtop had tjm xgs 4" lifted hilux shocks pinned to the centre and lower shock mount welded on the bottom of the axle tubes, ride was pretty reasonable and was flexi.fool_injected wrote:I got two (2" in spring and SOA and 2"Shackle SOA, both have 45'd rear shocks)

Flexes even better wit WT diff and NT springs
So many people comment on how my rear suspension works well
And thats with full stocman sptring packs
Note: 45'd shocks effect road handeling

i run 35's, 31' rancho 9000, incab control, 3inch custom springs, drop shackles, blah blah blah. on mine.
but there not for me!!
there for a mate, his has 31s efs 2inch springs and 2inch scorpion shackles it isn't a big dollar rock crawler, its a daily driver owned by a novice with short pockets, that wants to be able to play on the weekends!!
i'm asking what i can use from a donor car that will fit allowing his set up to work better he has rancho 5000 on it now and there similar length to vs commodore wagon rear but that is not long enough, he needs longer but commerdore new are less than $100 heavy duty a "pair" ranchos are $150+ "each" and he doesn't need adjustables he's to lasy to get out and adjust them
(so am i thats why i went in cab)
see the problem
some one said 2 inch hilux what are the lengths of those to compare that might be a goer as pedders, monroe, gabriel, etc would do them for a decent price
but there not for me!!

I think you need to travel the vehicle to it's full extent , measure open and closed measurements , give us the sizes and set the mob onto a solution , most manufacturers have the open and closed lengths on the net , you could compare brands and make a choice , Cheers Paul.

thats a good idea mart exept at present he is saving for a new motor and while its sitting around where putting wide track diffs in and mucking around with other bits and peices like shock lengths.
so i was hoping to find some thing to put in there while its procrastanating so when the motor comes its all we'll have to worry about.
but thats exactly what im doing to mine to find how high to make my hoops for my shocks in my sierra
and i 'll do a search now and see what i come up with

Sorry fo the Hijack , this might help you and your mate with fornt shock hoops.
Mate , I made shock hoops which weld and bolt on. I used the tube that goes through the chassis and sleeved it with a close fitting pipe. I did move and replace the front chassis tube but did not move it very far. You might be able to use the original tube to do something like this. This stops the shock hoop from moving and fatigueing the chassis. I used 16mm high tensile rod on the front and nuts to clamp front mount. There is a washer welded into the grey tube which sleeves the green original tube to locate and keep brooker rod central. The shock hoops are 32 x 4 tube. Top shock mount is 50 x 8 flatbar with 16mm high tensile bolt with nyloc nut. Rear mount is 100 x 100x 6 flat bar welded to light blue chassis. Also 16mm rod welded to plate first. I drilled a hole in the 100 x 100 x 6 plate and welded rod on both sides. The tube which is grey is welded on the inside with a stick welder. The rod is ground smooth on the back of the mounting plate to fit level with chassis. The grey tube also has a washer to keep rod centralised. Hope this helps , Cheers Paul.
