No, they use am italian VM diesel. Don't touch it.

If the price is right, it'd make a good base for a real diesel 4wd. Just throw a decent engine in.

With a different bellhousing on the LT77 you could convert to a 200Tdi. I know someone who fitted a 4BD1(T) to one, but he had to swap the gearbox to an R380 because the engine broke it. 4JB1 is also an option.

It wouldn't be much harder to convert a V8 rangie though, so don't pay any extra for it. You can probable find someone silly enough to sell the VM diesel to.

My VM was unreliable in vehicle, (overheating) but is now running a big water pump @2000 rpm, now reliable at over 40 hrs run! Put in a Tdi300 and Diesel ZF.

I'm with Ben, if its cheap enough rip out the VM and throw it in a dam then fit a 4bj1t isuzu donk. Beauty is it is already rego'd as a 4 cyl diesel.
Saddle up tonto, its the not so loanrangie! . 98 TDI DISCO lightly modded with more to come.
