DUAL BATTERIES

Fellas,

I know this topic has been done to death. I have read every one of them and none as satisfied my thoughts on the issue. I have a number of questions which i'd like to discuss with fellow forum users.

My battery is at the stage where its about to die.... just took it to the auto lekky... ... he said.. no good.. its rooted.

I want a dual battery system now that a steel bullbar and a hi mount winch is going on next month

Auto electrician suggested that i find another battery plate (holder for the passenger side - north south one) and he will install a pair of exide batteryes.. 640 amp batteries plus an isolator - this isolator uses both batteries to start the car then keeps it separate after starting.

My question to you all forum members.

is a pair of 640 amp batteries enough? - I dont run a fridge. Ill have a UHF, 8000lb hi mount winch, and a pair of lightforce spotties/or nite stalkers.

Is the isolator that the auto lekky is talkin about a good one to choose? or should i have a different one to use .. as to keep the main battery isolated for starting and the 2nd for winching??

This may be a dumb question, but how do both batteries get charged if they are separated after the engine starts? That would make it impossible for them both to charge at the same time...

if its the isolator i am thinking of it separates the batteries until the main battery reaches 13.5 volts then connects the other battery to charge it.
the best batteries i have heard about are calcium batteries high cca and don't run as hot as lead acid batteries but no good for deep cycle use, the local battery guy quoted $150 for a n70z size battery with 740 cca.

Yes, my isolator does the 13.5v thing too- but that's not what was written!?
