Not that impressed with new Pajero

Not that impressed with new Pajero
Yesterday I had a bit of a mix up with a car hire booking for a day work trip.
The only vehicle I could get was a Pajero. Ok , I thought that wil be OK.
The vehicle turned out to be an auto clacker.
You know when you were a kid & put a piece of cardboard in your bike spokes... & it went clack, clack, clack. Yep, a diesel.
Motor seemed to have good power when you were in the zone, anything out of that , it was gutless, no go until the turbo kicked in & no go over 3k revs.
I must admit that I was impressed with the auto trans UNTIL... I turned down a country lane & engaged 4wd. OK went 50m , stopped & tried to get it back in 2H. You would think it was just a matter of , put tranny in neutral , pull lever from 4LC back to 2H!!. No way, the lever was back in 2H but the dash indicator still said 4LC with all 4 wheel lights still on. Worse still was that there was NO drive at all, couldnt move an inch. ( & no I didnt forget to move the tranny to D, maybe |I should have tried R for rescue!.) Great I thought, stuck out in the middle of the nowhere with a hire car that aint going anyway. Thought I would have to ring AVIS & say , pick up your POS , & my wife is picking me up.
Anyway, I settled down a bit , turned the thing off & back on, still no different!. Turned off again & got out the manual, had a read. Nope definately not anything special required like a rain dance or put $50 bucks in the glovebox to disengage 4WD. Thinking, thinking what to do. Turned it back on & magic! 2H came back to life. F A R K I'm getting out of hear & heading off home.
All in all not a good experience, Think I'll stikc to my NL & when that one carks it , get another NL.
ANyone have any idea what happened to the 2H??
cheers

Ian, I luv my missus NP auto clacker.
The only difference is that the NS has the common rail injection.
I reckon the power spread is great and doesn't really suffer from turbo lag once you get used to the throttle (drive by wire).
To me the throttle isn't as sensitive as a cable type and you have to learn how to use it.
I've had it in 4x4 many, many times without issue, dash lights work pretty much straight away.
Maybe because it was abused hire car ?

yup, only had 7700ks on it, probably never been in 4wd before, probably scared the crap out of it. I actually got the tyres dirty too, thats what probably did it I reckon, too used to the black top!!.NJV6 wrote:Or maybe it had never been used....?
You dont really realise how damn good the NL is until you drive something else. Reckon I'll get an NL Exceed next time. All that wood grain & leather will look good out in the paddocks. Kangaroos will think I have turned soft.
