Ummm.... am I missing something here? I'm starting to get the impression that the Milbrodale site is off due to a Tuff Truck issue... if this is true it's the first I've heard about it.... can someone fill me in?
DRS smells like a cat-food milkshake... and wet socks... and gorgonzola cheese... all whizzed up in a blender

Hey guys,
Just wanted to say we came to say g' day.....and support you on Sun morning....enjoyed the new concept and the amazing driving/rigs.
But didn't like the high fench (something not of your choosing)...but it did keep spectators well back and safe.
Most of all it was really disappointing not being able to come ova & mingle/have a chat with you all and check out the rigs up close.
I know in most major motor sports that's usually the case (out of bounds).......but maybe a time should of been set aside for walking the pits....and publisize the time so everyone knows to be there or hold it during the lunch break if you had one.
Best of luck and continued success holding it in the new format.

Missing nothing...nothing to do with Tuff Truck. Tuff Truck did have some concerns with us using the areas around their courses (as they have done every year) but everything was working out fine. I just figgured that if this man made stuff worked then this would be the direction I really wanted to push.

Should set it up at the Superdome when the Crustys tour is on. If the containers get a bit much, pump up the airshocks and try a backflip Even make available Pit Passes like every other motorsport. Just an idea?

Man made seems to be the way to go, and definately the way to maximise publicity and income for the sport. Hopefully with the sport growing we will see 6,7 or 8 rounds each year...

big to sam and the boys for the weekend, i can see man made being the way of the future for sure. The courses were really challenging for the pro mod guys altho i dont think they were hard for the unlimited buggies at all, in the future i think it would be best if we ran them with the 2 lines like they use to be that course set up had a good balance.
Also i agree on the courses loooking kinda lame i know its a fair amount more work but could we get them looking more liek actual rocks kinda like the section at the 4wd show?

Hopefully with the continued success of the man made more permanent courses could be made like some of the US ones. I think the potential for arena events is great for a spectator point of view but the look of the current ramps does look a bit temporary. Mimicking a natural landscape can also help put things into some perspective as straight ramps at angles kinda makes it look like a skate park, whereas I think having it look like rocks and boulders helps reinforce the rock crawling aspect.
How have the surfaces withstood the event and what sort of maintenance is required? Also what sort of turnaround is there for setup and pull down – is their potential to run events at the annual car shows rather than just a bit of display, run a full event at the Sydney Motor Show or Melbourne Motor Show. What about running them at things like the big Day Out or similar festival events maybe. Are they easily transported?
Anyway good luck with it and hopefully spectators and competitors alike support it.

I'm all for retaining 'natural' courses... there should be a mix. Best thing would be to find more natural venues close to major centers. Lara just outside of Melbourne (where some OZ Rocks are held) is a great example. 40 mins from the Mel CBD, about the same from Geelong. Great terrain, facilities, etc.
As the man made stuff improves, I guess we have this kind of terrain to look forward to!

thats all well and good but you will find that having a permanent structure is not the best thing to do from an organisers point of view...firstly there is the initial cost of building it, then the continued cost of improving it, maintaining it etc...and for what??? you have to hold the event at the same venue every time trying to get the same spectators back again and again just to pay for it..people will get sick of it and you will be limited to one or two events a year as people just wont keep coming back if you hold one say every two months....so obviously you need to be able to take the course to the people, to different people at different venues, that way you are getting different spectators every time and by only going to a each venue say once a year spectators will stay interested..doing it this way you could hold ten events a year if you wanted togrimbo wrote:Hopefully with the continued success of the man made more permanent courses could be made like some of the US ones.
personally i think Sam is on the money with what he is trying to achieve and it is going to be the future of rockcrawling in Oz...sure there will still be natural events as well but how much can an organiser make from holding a contest in the middle of butthole nowhere with cletus and his three kids turning up as spectators....
as for the fences etc...at some stage rockcrawling needed to be made safer..gone are the days when a piece of bunting will stop a car from running over someone..
there will be improvements and the event will get better and better...

sure there will still be natural events as well but how much can an organiser make from holding a contest in the middle of butthole nowhere with cletus and his three kids turning up as spectators....
Maybe you should ask tuff truck,obc,willowglen,wood pecker or the nissan trials organisers if they make any money since they are held in the middle of butthole nowhere!

You guys should think your selves lucky with all the different types of compatition you can either enter or go to watch.We have 1 comp which Im running and hopefully the first rock event early next year.So stop complaining about venues.I think Sam is going down the right track with man made courses heh maybe one day the hole lot of you guys can come across to WA for an event.
If you do think about this we have access to a killer rock course I believe Mock has already had a look at it as he knows the owners son.
