thanks for that,
yeah, im thinking something has happens to the ignitor,
the only two ways i wired it up was red wire from ignitor to power side of ballist resistor and black wire from from ignitor to neg on coil,
and red wire fron ignitor to pos on coil and black wire from ignitor to neg on coil,
so not sure whats happened,
there's another one on its way and its the setup with the magnetic sleeve,
so hopefully it works,
cheers ray

HELP WITH PERTRONIX IGNITOR, electronic ignition,
Your first connection should have worked. Hope you have better luck with the next one. Mine also has a magnetic sleeve which fits over the cam and the gap is fixed which makes life easier. And as I said make sure you remove the condenser from the old points setup.
Now that I have got my efi fuel going OK I am going to try switching to true electronic ignition just using the Pertronix to send a timing signal to my Megasquirt ECU which will set the ignition timing.
Cheers, David

I just fitted a pertronix ignition to my mav about 20 minutes ago. It took about an hour and a half and it all went smoothly.
I didnt play with timing, I just whacked it in and wired the red wire to a 12 V source with the ignition on and the black wire to the negative side of the coil.
It started straight up.
I didnt feel any benefits at all though so was a little disappointed.
Ill play with timing a bit on the weekend it might need adjustment.

SWB mav. Some mods.
Just remembered that while preparing a spare distributor I had for my electronic ignition conversion (locking down the advance mechanisms) I first checked the Pertronix unit with a test lamp as follows.
I took a 12V supply from the +ve terminal of the battery to a 12V bulb and then grounded the bulb to the black terminal of the Pertronix. I grounded the distributor to the -ve battery terminal and ran a separate 12V supply (+ve) to the red Pertronix lead. Rotating the distributor spindle should cause the lamp to turn on and off. Easier to do this with the dizzy removed. (I also used this method in situ for setting the static timing)
Might help to check out your unit independent of your truck.
