vitara diff head into sammy diff

Post by Rotazuk »

Hi
Just want to find out if a vitara diff head will bolt up to a sammy diff housing . I have a steel diff head from a vitara with a locker in it and want to put it in my samurai diff without changing out the ring and pinion etc as its 5.29 . The side gears are ok at 26 spline , just wondered if the bolts were the same and the axle location is the same .

Thanks

Chris

From front or rear of the Vit? Vit's have never had a 5.29 ratio either that I've ever heard of.

Front should fit, BUT it will be probly be 2 pinion and I think most sierra ones are 4 pinion, so I wouls stick with the sierra one as it would probly be stronger.

from what i've been told, vit centers dont bolt up to zook ones but the gears are interchangeable. :?: not sure on lockers either as the splines might be different? don't know :?

The beauty of the internet is the myths that get perpetuated by people who just blindly repeat what they have heard somewhere without actually knowing the facts

have a look here http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/phpBB2/vi ... diff+ratio and when you have the info on the unobtanium 5.29's please feel free to add their tooth count for future identification by others.

5.29:1 vitara diff gears? Fantasy 4X4 in Mythville had containers full of them! Along with a warehouse full of full floating WT rear diffs with factory lockers. (They have recently sold out of flatfender jeeps in crates at $77.... but are expecting more any day!)

Geez CJ.... he said 5.29 or there abouts.... 5.12..... 5.29... who's counting??

Ahh the internet. Just because you can type doesn't mean you should.....

I heard you could buy 6X6 vitaras with portal axles on the internet

yes you will have to change your engine mounts, and fix your transfer case.

i heard that the vitaras were IFS portals and only came on the new GV, so you'll need new wheels as well.
