Dyneema/Plasma/Amsteel Rope, who can get at good prices?
Me, my mate and maybe a 3rd person are looking to replace our steel cables with rope, i have been looking around at prices and have a feel for it, but i thought id open up the subject for all to discuss, maybe someone has a connection somewhere that can do a bulk sale/deal
Would be looking for 3/8 rope at 125'(38 meters) with lug(not nesessary), spliced thimble, heat gaurd(maybe), abrasive cover and maybe hooks
Open to offers, even uncut drums and we source our own splicing and fittings, but would rather just be able to install it
Matt

Don't know if things have improved in the last six months, but when i was getting some winch rope back then it was significantly cheaper to purchase directly from the US. Have a look on ebay - just watch out for postage rates.
From memory it was about 50% of what local distributors wanted.

I am heading to the states RIGHT NOW. I will be looking to get some rope for myself and am prepared to bring some more back. As long as you pay for it in advance we can work something out. I will be there for 10 weeks in Texas so if you all work out what type you want and where to get it from i will organise while i am there. Which brand has the best abrasive resistance?

I wanted more protection for the section of rope sticking out of the fairlead. The tube thimble eye and heatshrink helps here. The Winchline rope is far better quality.turps wrote:What was your reasoning to change?

I like the tube thimble idea. As for the heat shrink thats an easy one to do.blkmav wrote:I wanted more protection for the section of rope sticking out of the fairlead. As for where the hook is kept. I am not a fan of using the hooks either the BBar mount or the factory ones. On my Old swb GQ I had abit of string around the top of the bullbar that I used to put the hook onto.
As I once had the cable crushed badly, broke a heap of strands. Had to get it re spliced.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....

If your looking for improved abrasion resistance, there is a new Samson Ropes product (people who make Am Steel Blue) that has a braided outer sheath over the load carrying rope. It is covered for the full length, but offers no load carrying capacity and due to the thickness of the sheath ends up being about 2mm in diameter greater than normal.
The braided sheath will keep the main rope in better condition for longer, so will help to offset the increased purchase price by making it last longer before you retire it.
Should be available from anyone who sells conventional Am-Steel Blue.

Hi guys, I am currently securing more competitive pricing for the Australian market and will let you know asap.
As of today, just working on the US dollar price @ 0.85 AUD for 30m or 100 foot (longest available in the 40 000lb rating) of the 7/16 or 11.11mm Superline XD will cost around $650 on your door, or 50m or 150 foot or 3/8 or 9.5mm with 26 500lb rating is going to be around the $850 mark on your door. Both come with:
* Heavy Duty sling hook
w/ safety latch
* Heavy Duty crush proof
tube thimble
* 3ft. Rock guard w/ Velcro
made of synthetic fiber
* 10ft. and 12ft. heat protector
for the winch drum
* H-D end connector for
winch drum attachment
* M-P Superline winch line
is available in Gray or Yellow
color.
It is adviseable to run your Superline through an alloy hawse fairlead to avoid winch line getting pinched or damaged on a regular roller fairlead. cost approx $90 AUD. Synthetic Superline XD winch rope comes with a braided cover made of synthetic fiber that gives the line even more strength, the cover braid provides excellent abrasion and protects
the inner core completely from mud, sand, dirt and UV rays for added UV
resistance Superline winch rope is coated with Polyurethane.
