Vitara tyre presures

I was just wondering what tyres presure u guys would recomend for a V6 vitara. Mum has got standard origonal bridgestone dueler H/t tyres with about 53000km's on them but there wearing on the outsides edges. Mum gets the guy at the local servo 2 check the tyre presures and I decided 2 check them with my tyre gauge. It showed they had 35 psi in them :shock: Would 30psi be a better presure 2 run :?:

for sure.although they are big they are still not heavy.id try 30 see how it goes.they are a 16 wheel yes?

actually i think 30 might still be too high.

I thought excessive wear on the outside edges indicated under inflation :?

yes your right.but surely 35 psi is too much in a vit.and definantly not under inflated.

think there 15's
I heard somewhere that wearing on the edges can be caused from over inflation :?
The tyre place card says 23 psi which I believe is 2 low
I run 30 psi in the feroza and got no wear problems with my 235/75r 15 inch muddies

Hi mate, I've got a short-wheel base Grand Vitara 1.6.. .on 15"s as Greg likes to mention ;) ... I'm running Cooper Discoverer ATs and the guys at TyrePower recommended I run them at 40PSI which I've been doing (well, sort of... I've been keeping it between 35 and 40).

Overinflation will wear tyres in the middle, not the edges... underinflation (and steering which isn't properly aligned) will wear tyres on the edges, that and throwing the car around corners.

I had Bridgestone H/Ts on the Terios and I found that they tend to roll a bit around corners at recommended pressures... now I'm running Bridgestone A/Ts at the same pressures and they handle beautifully with no apparent uneven wear.

First thing I would recommend is remembering to rotate the tyres around twice a year (or more frequently if you do a lot of Kms)... second thing is get a steering alignment (always ask for a printout with the before and after... and ask them to check the camber as well to see if it seems OK or not) and maybe check wheel balance.

Hitting potholes, gutters and things like that will set the steering out and if you knock the rims will set them out of balance as well...

The V6 runs 16". Is the wear on both edges of the tyre or just one, on both it's normally underinflation and on just one edge it's the wheel alignment. I'm running 32psi in my swb with even wear.

When Bob Jane fitted my new tyres they put 45 lbs in and needless to say the ride was a bit stiff but I usually run at least 30lbs cold on the highway. The original tyres did scrub out on the front passenger so I rotate the spare onto the passenger side every 10000 km

I've had the exact same problem... that should read I HAVE the exact same problem and rotating seems the best option so far... it appears the camber is out on the passenger side but it's not adjustable (or so I understood)... but then again the steering also needed alignment in my case...

I am astounded that it got that far on the original tyres, are they the originals? My v6 99 vitara got a whopping 28,000 klms. this was mainatining pressures at 30 psi (dealers recomendation) and rotating and aligning approx every 5,000 klms. admittedly the tyres copped a flogging off road in terrain they were certainly not designed for but still. U gotta be happy with 53,000 klms on factory tyres. :)

I thought the same thing until I did some investigation after wearing the edges of my H/T tyres running nearly 40PSI on road. Turns out with radial tyres they can wear on the shoulders when over inflated too.
