Need to buy a new compressor, and want to get a good one.
Been through about 4 supercheap ones, so I thought I would spend a bit more and get a good one.
Who has bought one of the new ARB compressors like this..... clicky
What are they like, whats the price of them, are they worth it etc,
Or am I better off getting a MaxAir?
I havent got lockers, just mainly want it for pumping tyres back up, (and my inflatble boat! ) and want something good and reliable.

Get a "Thomas" compressor. Either a Blue Tongue or a Twin Tongue. They aren't as fast as Bushranger compressors but they go forever and are rebuildable.
I personaly will be sticking far from ARB compressors

user management on my behalf,or maybee the product
I was using just wasnt suitable for my needs,but the service
& problems I have had from 1 manager in particular,has turned
me off ARB products,(thank god there is now a competitor air locker)
I originaly had an ARB air comprssor,for lockers only & it was tray
mounted after 6mnths the motor seised took it back to ARB,tehy told me
it had been underwater,showed them pitures of where it sat,1/2 way up on
the back wall of the cab above my sholders,they then told me ,it isnt made
tobe in the weather,(i thaught was odd as alot of comp mates all use this
same one mounted under the bonet,whitch hasnt had probs,even when
submersed in creek crossings)was told this mods motor was not sealed,
should be siliconed up(by purchacer although not in owners manual) &
only mounted inside the cab of comp trucks..so I purchaced a new motor
siliconed,& remounted in cab.6mnths later same prob,& recived same
responce,from same guy.due to it being only hrs before a comp,I had
to purchase yet another motor..After that comp I replaced it with a TJM
OX compressor,for 2 years now I havent had an issue..The ARB is
mounted underneath in clear view on the tray as a spare,& I am very
happy to inform anyone who asks why I use the OX over ARB,is that
under comp situations I have personaly found the ARB unreliable!!!!!!
I won't get into the ARB compressor reliability debate, however:
If you want to inflate a boat, you're going to need a whole lot more than even 2.6 CFM.
As Droopypete said - you need volume not pressure to do a job like air bed/boat/floaty pool toy/friendly inflatable lady inflation. Most electric compressors are designed for high pressure/low volume.

Just a bit more on high volume, if you inflate your boat a lot, fit a smog pump (like the ones fitted to Toyota 18R engines) they pump a huge amount of air for their size.

I don't think you'll get too many answers to your original question as the new model compressor is just that, new so I would doubt too many have tried one out yet.

Most inflatable boats are low pressure. I would use one of those cheap airbed inflators. More volume and quicker than any positive displacement compressor. Keep the compressor for lockers and tyres.
does need a tank if your doing high volume stuff. i have 35L air tank.
havent had any personal experience with endless air types (air con pumps) but on paper will far outperform even the boss above. a tank will be suited to this system too.
The Jury is out on this compresor. as CJ said its new. It has been produced to replace the old one that everyone whines about. Its nearly twice as fast (on paper) then the previous model. so long as it proves more reliable then it should be good.
The Boss compressors are Huge and therefore not for everyone.

It shouldnt be a bad compressor its built by a very reputable Compressor Company.
The new Compressor is listed in their latest Cattldog for $290.00
i use both a ARB&TJM OX(made by thomas) plumbed into a 10 litre tank for my airlockers and tyre inflation. a few months back the ARB motor seized and i couldnt even notice the differance apart from less noise coming from the mounting box under the tray and as always the ARB dealer would not warrent it as these things just brake when you use them however the OX compressers are just brillant although expensive at $400

I run my ARB ( big old one ) compresor from 5 years or so .. ( only for lockers ) without any issue .. fast and easy ..
For anything else ( and I recomend run separate compresors for lockers and one for anything else ) max air or viair are good options ..
Rule for me..
Air lockers ? one compresor ( and carry one for spare ) coz you never know when you neer lockers .. it could be the deference in a trail .. you are in and stuck or you are out and clean to go home.

i have been running the arb compressor (old one) for 4 years now and thought that it was a fine unit but very slow at pumping up tyres. i have killed a unit before as i ran my old one in the engine bay and was used in competition etc. and quickly bought another one, as i needed it to run the lockers. I put it in the back of the vehicle this time round, as they dont like the mud, heat from the turbo and water.
last weekend up at the 'best of the best' navun at Mt Dissapointment, my team-mate Pete (GQHOON) had one of the new ARB compressors in his vehicle, after the two days of competition we used this compressor to pump up his 35x11.5x15 simex's from 15-30 psi x4 and then my mates car with the same tyres from 15-30 pound. we did this straight after each other without leaving a gap, and the compressor didnt even stop! no overheating and just kept pumping. i was amazed with the speed of pumping up tyres and leaves the old one for dead!
i will definately be buying one of the new ARB compressors for my vehicle, so if anyone wants to buy an old school ARB compressor that pumps up tyres, let us know. As for the new compressor, speak to Greg at Smithies Outback Gear in Cranbourne for a price on (03)59954325

well my one of these hasnt broken down yet..... still in the box on the kitchen table though.
if it says there for much longer it may siffer from wife propultion syndrome.. with a nast stop as it hits the garage floor though!
but very impressed with build quality and comprehensivness of the kit, all the bits you need, will hopefully install tonight and have a bash at pumping some tyres and post up some times.
Brought one before too, Kerry? at southern said they have troubles with hose's blowing off, because of the heat, and recommended a meter of so of heavy duty hose to run off the pump, as the normal hose's can't take the extra heat.
He said arb will bring something out to solve this, but go to an air tool shop and get a metre of heavy duty hose to run straight off the compressor.
agreed, the heat problem seems to be an issue. We blew a hose yesterday airing up 20psi to road pressure (so nothing extreme) and it blew about 30mm past the crimp on the compressor end of the hose. New compressor, standard hose, first use.
I'd reccomend a fix if you use it harder than that....
Holy sh*t - the compressors go so hard these days they need intercooling too! I wonder if I should to air to air or water to air? That'll be another speed hole in the bonnet.
Same here, have a bushranger max-air, used it many a time pumping up from 18PSI to 40 coming off the beach, takes about the same time per tyre. Does get hot but as you say just keeps on going.
Have a seperate ARB air locker compressor for the locker I don't have yet (none in the counry been waiting 6 weeks already). For $175 and it drives 2 lockers why not leave it seperate, its cheap.
