XF Falcon tech.. accell cable stuck?
Got in the foulcan to drive home today and it was absolutely sluggish. Wasn't reving out before it changed gears, or getting up the revs as quick as usuall. Engines running fine, transmission seems to change fine. Just feels as though I can't push the accelerator down as far as I should, yet it's hitting the floor (ie, I can 'floor' it, but it just accelerates at a smooth cruisy pace).
Is there' a clip or something that can break, and give the cable or pedal too much slack or something? But at the same time, there's no slack really. Cause the revs kik in as soon as you push the pedal, it just doesn't go far enough
CARBY model BTW.

The other common issue with these things is that the automatic choke can break.
The locating lug can break off and cause the choke to stay on or off, depending where the lug breaks off.
Doesnt sound like this though.

Mine did similar. The outside sheath got too hot and softened. They shorten and this makes it sticky and lets you only have 20% of throttle avaialalbe. Repco sells the cable (on a Sunday in Toowoomba luckily).

sounds like the kickdown cable to the tranny has broken.
From a stop does it change up through th gears very quickly?
If you drive it manually selecting the gears is it ok?
If is it the kickdown cable needs to be replaced.........it is a second cable that hangs down the side of the carby going to the auto.....
to replace this you need to pull the transmittion pan off......

Went for a drive to check this and for the first 200m or so it was fine. Even had to ease off on the corner cause it was starting to break traction. Then, tried giving it a boot full down the road at 50ish... and nothing, accelerating at a calm sunday afternoon pace. And then the same from then on, even using gears manually.jtraf wrote:sounds like the kickdown cable to the tranny has broken.

I'm starting to think this is the case. Hard to change the cable? I'm new to petrol's, sorta. Had a look and the cable joins under neath the air filter assembly that seems to be attached to the carby, do I have to remove any of it to get at the cable?me3@neuralfibre.com wrote:Mine did similar. Drop off the air filter - 5 bolts. Dont drop any down the carby.
Get someone inside to work throttle with engine off. Butterfly should actuate fully. They are full mechnical, no vacuum secondary. If it doesn't open em both wide up - cable problem. Could also be the adjuster or bracket come loose.

Didn't need a new cable after all
Dropped the filter assembly off, and the bracket that holds the cable on at the carby end was loose, so when you put your foot down, it would move, and a nut on the swing arm thingy would come down and hit it, stopping it from opening more than about 30-40%. Stupid thing. Easy fix tho. At least now I can do powerslides
