Never had swampers, but JT2's are weapons, and street legal. I'd assume swampers are better though.

34 x 10.5 x 16 Swamper LTBs are a good choice. Sipe the center lugs and you'll be happy.

Id go JT2 because they are street legal.

Wouldnt be much in the tread design on both types although I would guess that the swamper would have a much more flexible sidewall so that may make it a better off road tyre. This also would make the JT2 a much tougher tyre which is a good thing in the long term (iv seen JT2s take some wicked punshment when totally off the rim and they still look fine - even when they dont look fine they still seem to hold air)

Why is a Swamper not street legal?? They have DOT approval. And I wouldn't question the toughness. People around here run down to 3 psi. Haven't seen a torn sidewall.

i have run q78's and 34" swampers on defenders.
they both take some punishment.
but my next set of offroad tyres will be 35" simex et's
they are really tough and stand up to heavy weight and punishment at lo pressures.
i believe et's only come in 32 and 35's is this correct??
both are good, but i will lean towards simex for my next set.

modman.

(can't go wrong with either set. hope you don't have 10 splines')

I also run swampers and think they are an awesome tyre. Im sure that the JT2s have a thicker sidewall and have no idea why the swampers arnt road legal here. I guess its just because swamper havent gone through the process of geting the tyres legal here and Simex have.
