ARB 24 spline rear locker into 78 rangie

Post by Geoffro »

Hi everyone, I've just tried to fit my 24 spline locker into my 78 rangie and found that the carrier bearings which fit onto the locker are too loose in the exsisting carrier bearing caps, and I cannot reuse the original carrier bearings as the original 10 spline diff carrier shafts are smaller than the ARB ones. Was wondering if there was a carrier bearing made for this situation?
Also Ive got maxi axles with imperial holes on the hubs so I don't want to change to metric diff.
Thanks for the help in advance.

Rover ran 2 different size carrier bearings, I forgot when the change over was, OOPS, re-read that, later are smaller, you need a later centre, earlier are 3" later are ??? forget

I've only got earlier ones

Thanks for the reply cloughy, I spoke to Fred Smith in Bayswater and got some spacer rings off him to make the bearings fit, but today when I was fitting the thing, the bearing nut which comes with the arb locker is made to fit the smaller carrier bearing caps, so Ill have to ring arb and see if I can get a bearing nut to suit, if they dont have anything I'll have to get one made.

Whta did the spacer's cost you?? be careful a second hand late centre can be had cheaply, i wouldn't be spending more than $100 on bits to suit personally, I've got complete front and rear 24 spline disco diff's here if your interested :D If I had a late centre left I'd donate it for a slab of piss, but I sold my last late model wreck with diffs complete

The spacers were $40 and if I cant get a bearing nut cheap from arb I'll be able to get it made for the price of the steel by a mate.
