The question I have is about fitting longer gas shocks to lifted suspension.

When the truck is on the ground what is the best position for the shock, does it matter if it is more compressed than extended or should it sit closer to halfway between full extension and full compression??. Just wondering. Will it still work as good if it is more compressed??.

i think I read somewhere the static height of a shock (at rest on the vehicle) should be 2/3rds compressed (1 3rd shaft showing).. but i could be wrong.. i'm sure someone will correct me if i am.. :)

It all depends on where your bumpstops are. If you have 3" between the axle and the bumpstop, then a rule of thumb is to add 1" and that's the answer for the shock.This will prevent damage to the shock when the car is fully compressed.

I have set up cars with 1" of compression travel and miles of droop - so the shocks have 2" of compression at rest even though they have 11" of travel.

Shocks need to be sized on compressed length and mounts locations not extended length.
